Te Akau Singapore Friday Preview
12 January, 2018
Te Akau horses racing at Kranji racecourse in Singapore, where 2015 and 2017 Premiership winning trainer Mark Walker has two wins already to his credit in the first week of racing.
Friday 12 January
11.20 p.m. R1 3 AUSPICIOUS ACE - Vlad Duric; the first runner for the stable this evening unfortunately cops a wide draw (10 of 12) on the polytrack in this Class 4 1100m where he carries 56.5kgs. The 4YO Alamosa gelding resumes in this non-premier event and comes into this race nicely - a top four chance.
12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R3 5 PRINCE DARCI - Craig Grylls; the Kiwi rider has had his license to ride in Singapore renewed for this season and climbs aboard this talented 4YO son of Darci Brahma in the Class 4 non-premier 1800m on the turf long course A. Drawing midfield (6) in the field of 10, with 54.5kgs assigned this Fortuna runner, with the senior ride back on and over 1800, on the turf to sduit - he rates a top four prospect.
1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 7 ELITE GENERAL - Ismail Azhar; two starters in the Class 3 1200m on the polytrack for Mark Walker with the first, this son of Exceed and Excel drawing nicely (3) with only 53kgs on his back. This 5YO probably needs to drop back ratings-wise to again be competitive.
1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 8 PURE JUSTICE - App CK Ng (a3); the other 5YO in this S$80,000 event draws just one outside of his stablemate (4) in the field of 10 competitors. With the apprentice allowance, he has the luxury of just 50kgs and will be looking to go better than his solid fourth placing when last presented, however he too would appreciate a ratings' drop to bounce back into winning form.
2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 ELITE POWER - Craig Grylls; another stable duo to contest this Class 3 1200m again on the polytrack where this 4YO has his second Singapore appearance with his debut run for second having plenty of merit. Drawn to be dangerous (2 of 12) he is assigned 54kgs and is a nice individual - a top four chance.
2.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 9 THE COSMOS - App N Hanafi (a4); the second runner for Mark Walker in this S$80,000 affair will relish the maximum apprentice claim, carrying the featherweight of just 48.5kgs. Hopefully this negates his awkward draw (11) as he seeks to add to his S$218,000 in stakes' earnings from his three wins and nine runner-up placings already recorded at Kranji. He however strikes a really strong field and looks better placed once he drops back in the ratings.
3.20 a.m. (Saturday) R9 11 SUPER GENIUS - App CK Ng (a3); the final runner on this relatively quiet night for the stable lines up in this Class 3 premier 1100m on the polytrack where he too will enjoy a substantial weight relief thanks to his apprentice rider (50.5kgs). Hopefully that helps to mitigate her car park draw (12 of 12) as she seeks to emulate her win two starts ago - a prospect more likely when this 4YO by Alamosa returns to Class 5 company.
