Te Akau Singapore Preview

Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where trainer Mark Walker leads the premiership with 50 wins (11 ahead of 2nd) since the season started on 1 January. 

This Sunday 12 July is Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby Day.

Friday 10 July 

10.20 p.m. R1 1 Dr Octopus (4 g Perfectly Ready - Kalapana Black) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier eight of fourteen in the $35,000 Class 5 1000 metres on the polytrack and carries 57kgs. Has been going honest races and looks a top four chance back in grade with the leading rider aboard.

11.20 p.m. R3 2 Dreamcatcher (6 g Occidental Tourist - Camilla) - Shafiq Rusof (a1); drew barrier three of ten in the $60,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the polytrack and carries 55kgs. Has been working nicely and from a good draw with a jockey in super form he receives every chance.

11.50 p.m. R4 11 Pharma Browne (4 g Saperavi - Patient) - Mohd Zaki (a1); drew barrier thirteen of fourteen in the $35,000 Maiden 1600 metres on the polytrack and carries 50kgs. Under a light weight, the plan is to go forward and hope for an improved performance.

12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 7 Alpha Centauri (5 g Keeper - Country Rose) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier four of ten in the $100,000 Benchmark 89 1600 metres on the polytrack and carries 50kgs. Thrived since his last start third, he gets his chance for a very good stake and with good form on the polytrack he rates a top four chance from a nice draw - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

12.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 8 Om (5 g Darci Brahma - Songfest) - Mansor Firdaus (a2); drew barrier one of ten in the $100,000 Benchmark 89 1600 metres on the polytrack and carries 48kgs. He made good ground from the rear for second last start and a similar effort would see him competitive again.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 2 Iking (6 g Holy Roman Emperor - Lacada) - Shafiq Rusof (a1); drew barrier eight of fourteen (12 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1700 metres on the polytrack and carries 54.5kgs. Consistent without being able to notch a win of late, he likes the poly and again rates a top four chance - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R6 4 Sacred Spin (4 g Hard Spun - Destina) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier four of fourteen (12 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1700 metres on the polytrack and carries 54.5kgs. Is another racing consistently well and he too receives a nice opportunity to enhance his stakes earnings.

1.50 a.m. (Saturday) R8 7 Clermont Club (5 g Casino Prince - Razzle) - Hazman Syafiq (a4); drew barrier six of twelve in the $60,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the polytrack and carries 54.5kgs. While the sprint trip is too short, it provides a stepping stone to racing over a mile next Sunday.

4.40 p.m. R1 5 Hardcore Rock (4 g Fastnet Rock - River Dreaming) - Hugh Bowman; drew barrier two of fourteen in the $38,000 Kranji D 1200 metres on the turf long course A and carries 58kgs. Pleasing trainer Mark Walker in his work, he has a top rider aboard and any rain to soften the ground would aid his prospects of figuring in the first four.

6.10 p.m. R4 3 Star Beauty (4 m Tale of the Cat - Quick Start) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier two of fourteen in the $38,000 Kranji D 1200 metres on the turf long course A and carries 58kgs. Has to carry a big weight, but pleased last start and should go well from a good draw for the leading jockey.

7.10 p.m. R6 1 Aspen (4 g Alamosa - Kirin Belle) - Hugh Bowman; drew barrier three of ten in the $60,000 Benchmark 67 2000 metres on the turf long course A and carries 57kgs. Not quite in the right form to tackle the Derby, he is racing solidly nonetheless and the step up in distance should suit.

8.15 p.m. R8 13 Sebrose (4 g Sebring - Bramble Rose) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier three of fifteen in the $1,150,000 Emirate Singapore Derby (Gr. 1, 2000m) on the turf short course A and carries 57kgs. Has pleased the trainer with his work through the week and can prove a top five chance from a good draw in a very strong field where War Affair (also purchased by David Ellis) looks a standout.

10.00 p.m. R10 5 Irish Rebel (5 g Danehill Dancer - Ballycairn) - Shafiq Rusof (a1); drew barrier twelve of sixteen (14 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf short course A and carries 55kgs. He could finish in the top five with luck in running from a wide gate - one of three in the race for Te Akau.

10.00 p.m. R10 12 Brahms and Liszt (5 g Coats Choice - Symphony) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier one of sixteen (14 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf short course A and carries 54.5kgs. Drawn one, with blinkers on for the first time, he has favourable factors to prove a top four chance.
