Te Akau Singapore Quinella
24 June, 2013
Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker was again in the winner's circle last night when Zac Suggestion notched up his second career win - and Mark's 39th for the season. There was plenty to celebrate too, with stablemate Charging Bull finishing off his race splendidly for second.
In the maiden 1400m over the turf, Te Akau had the two runners engaged - ridden by two of the best riders in commission in Singapore. Joao Moreira took the mount aboard Zac Suggestion while Manny Nunes, his fellow South American, climbed aboard Charging Bull.
Both were patiently ridden with the grey son of Any Suggestion for Moreira, settling the handier of the two. Charging Bull, the half brother by Spartacus to Group 1 winner Wall Street, settled near the rear of the field.
As they turned for home, under the urgings of Singapore's champion jockey, Zac Suggestion cruised up and went on by his opposition to score comfrotably by 2.5 lengths. The run of the race arguably came however from Charging Bull who flashed down the outside from well back to run an eye catching second to his stablemate.
Both horses are graduates of the Karaka Sale - with Charging Bull (who we know as Sparky) purchased by David Ellis for $160,000. There is no question that both can look forward to future wins in Singapore.
Other Te Akau runners performing well included Ready Fortune who was runner up in his event and Soul Commander and Vitalico, both finished off strongly for third in their respective races.
Mark Walker continues his stranglehold on the Trainers' Premiership in Singapore - remaining five wins clear of Michael Freedman and Laurie Laxon. With six months of the Singapore season almost complete, Mark's performance this year has been outstanding. He has dominated the premiership table for the entire season - and in just our third full season - that is no mean feat we can assure you.
