Te Akau Singapore Saturday Preview
5 January, 2024
Te Akau Singapore has seven horses entered on Saturday 6 January at Kranji – the first meeting for the new season (Singapore works to a calendar year).
Training since 2018 in Singapore, Logan took over from Mark Walker on 1 January 2022 and has trained nearly 100 winners since, including finishing runner-up in the premiership.
Walker was Singapore Champion Trainer in 2015, 2017 (record 87 wins), 2019, and 2021, also runner-up three times, third, and fourth.
7:30 p.m. R6 10 Montana Flash (5 g Star Turn – Dukemore) – Ivan Espindola; he drew barrier 6 of 12 in the $50,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the poly track and carries 52kg. He can race well again and will be looking to finish strongly.
8:30 p.m. R8 12 Reignite (6 g Sebring – Risk Aversion) – Jamil Sarwi (a3); he drew barrier 7 of 12 in the $70,000 Class 3 1100 metres on the poly track and carries 50.5kg. He is assigned a very light weight and has definite first four claims.
9:00 p.m. R9 6 Our Secret Weapon (6 g Outreach – Poppy’s Pond) – Yusoff Fadzli (a2); he drew barrier 8 of 12 in the $30,000 Class 5 1100 metres on the poly track and carries 55.5kg. He received a horror trip last time, however he is a tough sprinter back in this class.
9:30 p.m. R10 2 Trident (5 g Deep Field – Miss Fi) – Jamil Sarwi (a3); he drew barrier 3 of 12 in the $70,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the poly track and carries 56kg. Resuming, he has trialled well, and looks set to improve when he gets up to 1400 metres.
10:00 p.m. R11 1 King Arthur (6 g I Am Invincible – Pentasia) – Yusoff Fadzli (a); he drew barrier 1 of 11 in the $110,000 New Year Cup (Gr. 3, 1200m) on the poly track and carries 58.5kg in the feature. He is the highest rated in the field, brings a good course/distance record to the contest, trialled well, and presents as a top three chance.
10:35 p.m. R12 6 Fadaboy (5 g Deep Field – Ezee Ezee) – Shin Chong (a4); he drew barrier 8 of 12 in the $50,000 Class 4 1100 metres on the poly track and carries just 49.5kg. It is the second career ride for Chong and the pair requires luck from an awkward draw (8).
10:35 p.m. R12 13 Elliot Ness (6 g Written Tycoon – Walk With Attitude) – Ibrahim Mamat (a3); he drew barrier 5 of 12 in the $50,000 Class 4 1100 metres on the poly track and carries only 48.5kg. As he currently sits at number one on the ballot, unlikely to gain a start.
