Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
13 September, 2014
Te Akau Singapore lines up 11 starters at Kranji on Sunday afternoon (evening NZ time):
4.50 p.m. R1 8 Zac Gallant (5 g Darci Brahma - Clermont Rose) - Harry Kasim (a1); has drawn barrier 10 of 14 (only 12 will run) in the $35,000 Class 5 Handicap over 1000 metres on the polytrack and carries 55kgs. With two thirds and two seconds in his last four starts, Zac Gallant looks close to a win. After drawing barrier ten he will require luck in the running and should prove a top four chance.
5.20 p.m. R2 7 Hee's Ego (3 g Tale of the Cat - Quatro) - Lisa Allpress; has drawn barrier 11 of 11 in the $75,000 Restricted Maiden over 1200 metres on the polytrack and carries 52.5kgs. He was flushed wide from the turn and faded on his run slightly to finish fifth in what was an encouraging debut after trialling well before leaving New Zealand. Drawn wide again he will be ridden for cover and should be hitting the line well.
6.25 p.m. R4 5 Flying Solo (4 g Flying Spur - Daly Charm) - Manoel Nunes; has drawn barrier one of 11 in the $65,000 Initiation Stakes over 1200 metres on the turf and carries 57.5kgs. One of two in the race for Mark Walker, he is on debut and showed good ability winning a trial at Matamata before departing to Singapore. Although 1200 metres looks well short of his best distance, it provides a good starting point for his career and he will improve with the experience.
6.25 p.m. R4 11 So What (3 f Saperavi - Zorina) - Lisa Allpress; has drawn barrier four of 11 in the $65,000 Initiation Stakes over 1200 metres on the turf and carries 49.5kgs. also on debut in Singapore she showed good speed to win and place twice in three trials before departing New Zealand. Her trials in Singapore have also been encouraging and in what looks like quite a strong form race on paper she should be somewhere in the first five home.
7.55 p.m. R7 1 Hillbilly Bear (6 g Thorn Park - Classic Vault) - R Zawari (a3); has drawn barrier 10 of 14 (12 will run) in the $38,000 Kranji D 1200 metres on the turf and carries 55kgs. One of the three in the race for Mark Walker, he gets down into a slightly weaker grade for this run. The claim will suit but from a wide gate will need luck in running.
7.55 p.m. R7 9 Forever Ahead (4 g Saperavi - Sweet Dreams Baby) - W S Chan (a4); has drawn barrier 11 of 14 (12 will run) in the $38,000 Kranji D 1200 metres on the turf and carries 51kgs. The wide draw and strong field make this a tough assignment but his last run was encouraging and he may benefit from dropping back to Class 5 if he doesn't prove competitive in this line up.
7.55 p.m. R7 10 Von Snitzel (6 g Snitzel - Lumir) - H Amin (a4); has drawn barrier three of 14 (12 will run) in the $38,000 Kranji D 1200 metres on the turf and carries 51kgs. With the field being a touch stronger than his last appearance it looks as though the aid of a good barrier and nice light weight on his back should be of real assistance. He is well within himself and should run up to his current form.
9.00 p.m. R9 1 Encosta Diablo (7 g Encosta De Lago - Devil's Lair) - H Amin (a4); has drawn barrier three of eight in the $60,000 Benchmark 67 1700 metres on the polytrack and carries 55kgs. After receiving top weight the decision was made to claim and he appears bright and well ahead of this run. His current form has only been fair but back to the polytrack he is set to put his best foot forward.
9.00 p.m. R9 3 Riedel (5 g Saperavi - La Conga) - Manoel Nunes; has drawn barrier eight of eight in the $60,000 Benchmark 67 1700 metres on the polytrack and carries 58.5kgs. Dropping back a grade and a noted back marker, his outside barrier shouldn't be too much of a hinderance to him. If a good tempo is set up off the front he is sure to be closing off the race well.
9.00 p.m. R9 8 Single Act (5 g Bachelor Duck - Consumer) - Lisa Allpress; has drawn barrier six of eight in the $60,000 Benchmark 67 1700 metres on the polytrack and carries 50kgs. He was quite disappointing last weekend but looks to improve back on his favoured polytrack and with a nice light weight. Quite a tricky horse, some gear adjustments have been made to hopefully turn his form around.
9.35 p.m. R10 4 Golden Sand Steed (5 g Pins - Ambitious) - R Zawari (a3); has drawn barrier four of nine in the $125,000 Kranji A Stakes over 1000 metres on the polytrack and carries 52kgs. After winning so impressively in a Class 2 $100,000 race last start he was able to take his earnings to over $450,000 from his eight wins in Singapore. This is another step up for one of the most honest horses in the stable but with the 3kg allowance and a nice draw he is sure to prove compeititve again in what is the biggest test of his career so far.
