Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
Date: 23 Jul 2023
Te Akau Singapore has 13 horses entered Sunday 23 July at Kranji.
Te Akau Singapore trainer Donna Logan ended her first season finishing second in the premiership, and currently tied fifth.
Training since 2018 in Singapore, Logan took over from Mark Walker on 1 January 2022. Walker was Singapore Champion Trainer in 2015, 2017 (record 87 wins), 2019, and 2021, also runner-up three times, third, and fourth.
4:30 p.m. R2 5 Charminton (4 g Charm Spirit - Sarzana) - Yusoff Fadzli (a2); he drew barrier 3 of 10 in the $50,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the turf and carries 53.5kg. In good form, he races on his favourite course and over his favoured distance, and rates a top four chance.
5:30 p.m. R4 2 Knippenberg (3 g I Am Invincible - Red Fez) - Manoel Nunes; he drew barrier 6 of 12 in the $50,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the turf and carries 58kg. He has good ability, trialled well to win, and has definite first four claims.
6:00 p.m. R5 8 Montana Flash (4 g Star Turn - Dukemore) - Louis Beuzelin; he drew barrier 8 of 10 in the $50,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf and carries 53kg. He drops from Group Two company, and is likely to get back but can finish strongly as a top four contender.
6:30 p.m. R6 2 Artillery (2 g Smart Missile - Lycra Lass) - Simon Kok; he drew barrier 12 of 16 in the $110,000 Singapore Golden Horseshoe (Gr. 3, 1200m) on the turf and carries 56kg. One of two stable starters, he has finished second and first, respectively, in his two Raceday appearances. Unfortunately he has drawn wide (12) for the juvenile feature, but is running the sectionals to present as a realistic top four prospect.
6:30 p.m. R6 6 Rhett Butler (2 g Charm Spirit - Thurlow) - Yusoff Fadzli (a); he drew barrier 13 of 16 in the $110,000 Singapore Golden Horseshoe (Gr. 3, 1200m) on the turf and carries 56kg. While he is likely to get back from the wide gate (13), he is a strong finisher and capable of getting into it at the business end.
6:30 p.m. R6 17 May (2 g Sweynesse - Voleuse) - unfixed; he drew barrier 14 of 16 in the $110,000 Singapore Golden Horseshoe (Gr. 3, 1200m) on turf and carries 56kg. He looked good winning his trial, but sits as first on the ballot and is unlikely to gain start.
7:05 p.m. R7 6 Axel (7 g Darci Brahma - Josephines Fortune) - Yusoff Fadzli (a2); he drew barrier 2 of 12 in the $50,000 Class 4 1600 metres on the turf and carries just 52.5kg. This senior statesman of the stable likes this distance and is ideally drawn (2) to rate a longer odds place chance.
8:05 p.m. R9 4 Maximum Control (3 g Written Tycoon - Alcatraz) - Louis Beuzelin; he drew barrier 4 of 13 in the $75,000 Novice on the turf and carries 57.5kg. He is a talented horse, dropping back from a top effort in Group Two company, and is ideally drawn (4) to rate a top four chance - one of two contesting the event for the stable.
8:05 p.m. R9 11 Popeyethesailorman (3 g Reward for Effort - Fudge Delight) - Harry Kasim; he drew barrier 6 of 13 in the $75,000 Novice on the turf and carries 54.5kg. He will be likely to go forward and looks a longer odds place chance.
9:05 p.m. R11 11 Ahorsewithnoname (4 m Adelaide - Me No Marsh Potato) - Mohd Zaki; she drew barrier 10 of 11 in the $400,000 Singapore Derby (Gr. 1, 1800m) on turf and carries 55.5kg. She always tries hard, but this is a tough assignment and her wide gate (10) is certainly of no assistance.
9:40 p.m. R12 3 Stenmark (5 g Medaglia d'Oro - Scandiva) - Jamil Sarwi (a4); he drew barrier 1 of 10 in the $70,000 Class 3 1200 metres on turf and carries only 53kg. He has been freshened, has trialled well, brings strong course/distance stats into play and rates a top four chance if cleanly away - the first of a stable trio lining up in the Class 3 event.
9:40 p.m. R12 4 Entertainer (6 g Zoustar - Laughing) - Yusoff Fadzli (a2); he drew the outside barrier (10) in the $70,000 Class 3 1200 metres on the turf and carries just 52kg. He may push forward from the outside gate (10), and although he meets a classy field, he is capable of a good effort.
9:40 p.m. R12 5 January (3 g Swiss Ace - Musically) - Simon Kok; he drew barrier 7 of 10 in the $70,000 Class 3 1200 metres on turf and carries 54kg. Back in class after contesting the Singapore Guineas (Gr. 2, 1600m), he has trialled strongly but may require the run.
