Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where 2015 Trainers' Premiership winner Mark Walker lies third on the Trainers' Premiership - now with 53 wins and $3,301,662 in stakes' earnings since 1 January (as at 26.8.16).

Sunday 25 September - note with daylight saving, now a five hour time difference

5.45 p.m. R1 10 Q NINE MAGIC - Shafiq Rizuan; two stable runners in the first from Kranji on Sunday, the Class 5 1400m on the turf long course D.  The first, to  be ridden by Te Akau's former two time Champion Apprentice of Singapore Shafiq Rizuan, has drawn six of 12 and carries 54.5kgs.  He has had absolutely no luck of late, if he gets it tonight he's a top four chance.

5.45 p.m. R1 SECRET SPICE - Oscar Chavez; the second of our starters in the first races in Fortuna's and she draws nicely (4) and also carries 54.5kgs.  She is coming off a freshen up - a top four chance.

6.15 p.m. R2 3 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - Manuel Nunes; in the Open Maiden WFA over 1400m on the turf long course D, he jumps from barrier five in the 11-strong line-up and will carry 57.5kgs.  The trainer reports that this ultra-consistent galloper has found a suitable race and his work during the week has been good - a top four chance.

6.45 p.m. R3 8 ELHAAME - App CC Wong (a2); again two Mark Walker representatives here in the S$65,000 Initiation 1000m on the polytrack and both on debut.  The first, a Red Element 3YO, cops a nasty draw (extreme outside in the 12 horse field) but has some weight relief at least - just 49kgs with the apprentice claim.  He trialled up nicely but has the tricky barrier draw, if he can overcome that - a top four chance.

6.45 p.m. R3 11 HAYTHAM - Derreck David; the second stable debutant draws marginally better but gate nine is still not ideal for this son of Saperavi.  With just 51kgs to carry, he has been a “barrier work in progress” and a lot of work has been done to resolve this - a place chance.

8.15 p.m. R6 2 DAMON - Danny Beasley; a good draw (4) and 57kgs in this Class 4 1800m on the turf long course D.  A 5YO son of O'Reilly, Damon has earned $147,000 in his 18 starts in Singapore with three wins and 11 other top four placings. Facing 11 opponents, he is back to Class 4 company which will suit him, as does the distance and he has worked nicely this week - the main concern would be the weight - a top four chance.

8.45 p.m. R7 1 CLUTHA LAD - Shafiq Rizuan - another two horse affair for the stable in the Kranji Stakes D SW mile on the polytrack.  This honest son of Thorn Park was bought by David Ellis for $36,000 and has now earned almost $300,000 for his connections in Singapore.  Tonight he carries 58kgs and has drawn 10 of 12.  He is an older horse now and seemed to have lost his way a bit but his work during the week has been good and this is the easiest field he has faced for a while - he could surprise at odds.

8.45 p.m. R7 2 NORTHERN KNIGHT - Manuel Nunes; the second stable representative has fared worse in the draw department - 12 of 12 and carries 58kgs for the champion rider.  He is in good form, a slight query with the polytrack but he is well up to Kanji D company - a strong top four chance.

9.20 p.m. R8 4 MISS WAIMATAITAI - Shafiq Rizuan; she's not the most predictable this Kiwi mare but has drawn well (5) for this Class 5 1400m assignment on the turf long course D where she will carry 56.5kgs.  Facing a field of 12, she can be a frustration this girl, she has ability but she often blows it coming out of the barriers on race day.  She finds a weak field here - a top four chance.

10.30 p.m. R10 10 STORM TROOPER - Shafiq Rizuan; a horse who always tries hard, he's landed a good draw (2) in this S$60,000 Open Benchmark 67 over 1200m on the polytrack and will carry 54.5kgs.  In his 19 Singapore starts, he has claimed three wins and eight placings for $159,000 in prize money, making him another  astute David Ellis purchase.  In a field of 12, he might need to drop back to Class 4 to be a winning chance but he could surprise in Open Benchmark company.

11.00 p.m. R11 10 ASPEN - Shafiq Rizuan; the final runner for the evening would be right in this should rain - drawn barrier nine he will carry 54.5kgs in the Class 4 1200m back on the turf long course D. In this line-up of 12, he comes off a nice freshen up and whilst 1200m will be too short for him, expect to see him running on at the business end - and look for 1400m next start.
