Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
The Singapore Turf Club resumed racing when the new 2017 season commenced on 1 January.  The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner Te Akau's Mark Walker, who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership, has a sizeable team engaged, looking to add to his first win of the season last weekend.

Sunday 8 January

5.40 p.m. R1 4 ANCIENT WARRIOR - Glen Boss; two stable runners in the first on Sunday, this one to be ridden by the top Australian rider.  He has drawn out at nine in the 10-starter field for the Open Maiden WFA 1100m on the polytrack and will carry 57.5kgs.  He has come on nicely following his tidy debut third - a top four chance.

5.40 p.m. R1 9 ELHAAME - Oscar Chavez; gets the gun draw (1) and carries 54kgs. He is unpredictable but he has freshened up nicely and has drawn a good gate - an improved performance is looked for.

6.10 p.m. R2 ALAMAK BOY - App R Zawari (a2); a handy draw (3) in this Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA 1400m on the turf short course C.  Up against nine other runners in the S$75,000 affair, he will carry 55kgs with the apprentice claim.  He has disappointed in his trials and hoping for a better race on the turf.

6.40 p.m. R3 2 EN CIVIL - Gerald Mosse; this is a 6YO who showed plenty of good form last preparation and returns today in the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack where he has drawn gate six and carries 56kgs.  He too has freshened up nicely - the 1200m is a bit short early in his new campaign - place chance in this field of only nine runners.

7.40 p.m. R5 9 KEEN DRAGON - Derreck David; two Mark Walker starters in the field of 11 for the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack where the first has drawn out at nine but has the lightweight of 52.5kgs to carry.  He is an older horse now and he might need to drop in the ratings to return to winning form.

7:40 p.m. R5 10 ASPEN - App S Anandan (a1); a draw of six and a weight of just 50.5kgs thanks to the apprentice up for this resuming horse who will be looking for rain.  He too needs a drop down in the ratings to win again.

9.15 p.m. R8 12 CLERMONT CLUB - Glen Boss; a graduate of the NZB Ready to Run Sale, this 7YO son of Casino Prince has won over $211,000 from his six wins and 16 other top four placings since he went to Singapore. Back contesting a Class 5 1600m on the turf short course C, he has drawn well (3) and carries only 53kgs.  Facing a field of 13 opponents, he is getting down now in the handicaps - good barrier and top jockey - a top five chance. .

9.50 p.m. R9 6 DISTINCTIVE DARCI - Alan Munro; a real find last campaign and a hugely promising horse who has stepped up each time asked, he contests the S$80,000 Kranji Stakes C SW 1000m on the polytrack as he shoots for his fifth consecutive win.  He has drawn eight of 11 and carries an impost of 58kgs - one of two in the race for Mark Walker, he trialled well towards the end of December and looks set to take yet another step up.

9.50 p.m. R9 11 Q NINE MAGIC - App CK Ng (a3); the second starter draws gate seven and slips in on just 47.5kgs with the apprentice riding.  The winner of two of his previous five appearances, he needs to drop down to Class 5.
