Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner Te Akau's Mark Walker, who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership, has trained six winners and lies second on the Trainers' Premiership this season which began on 1 January.

Sunday 15 January

6.20 p.m. R1 6 BEST JADE - App R Zawari (a2); two stable runners in the first on Sunday, this one to be ridden by the in-form apprentice, has drawn mid-field (5) in the 11-starter field for the Class 5 1200m on the polytrack and will carry 54kgs with the apprentice claim. He has been a bit disappointing lately and needs to improve.

6.20 p.m. R1 9 MISS WAIMATAITAI - Gerald Mosse; draws wider than her stablemate (8) and carries 54.5kgs for the top international rider. A sometimes-cantankerous mare, she put it all together for a gritty win last start and has come through the race well.  This race looks no harder but back to the polytrack - a strong top four chance.

6.50 p.m. R2 7 HIDDEN PROMISE - App R Zawari (a2); a handy draw (5) in this Open Maiden WFA 1600m on the turf short course E.  Up against 11 other runners in the S$35,000 affair, he will carry 56kgs with the apprentice claim.  He has his third start today for the Fortuna team and after his improver's run last start, there looks to be further improvement to come - place chance.

7.50 p.m. R4 1 GANNET - Gerald Mosse; this is a 5YO on debut, one of two in the event for the stable in the Class 4 1200m on the turf short course E where he has unfortunately copped the 10 draw in a 12 strong field.  Carrying top-weight of 58.5kgs for the renowned rider, he will need longer distance.

7.50 p.m. R4 11 Q NINE MAGIC - App CK Ng (a3); the second for trainer Mark Walker has drawn even worse (12 of 12) and with the allowance will carry the featherweight of 47.5kgs.  A winner four starts ago, he needs to drop to Class 5 to be competitive.

8:25 p.m. R5 1 ANCIENT WARRIOR - App R Zawari (a2); a draw of five in a field of only nine starters for this Initiation 4YO + Below WFA 1200m on the turf short course E.  Having his third start after two promising efforts for third and fourth, he will carry 55.5kgs courtesy of the apprentice.  He is a horse on the improve and while the 1200m is a touch short, he rates a place chance.

8.55 p.m. R6 2 JACK'S SECRET - App R Zawari (a2); another for the Fortuna team, the 4YO son of Sakhee's Secret will jump from barrier nine in this field of 11 runners in the second Initiation 4YO + Below WFA 1200m on the turf short course E.  He will carry 55,5kgs with the apprentice aboard and has placed two of his four starts to date - he is a nice big horse that will eventually get a mile so 1200m a bit short - one of two in the event for Mark Walker - place chance.

8.55 p.m. R6 11 SUCCESS COMES TRUE - App MM Firdaus (a1); the second stable runner lands the ace draw and will carry 51.5kgs in his third start in Singapore.  He is a big improver with blinkers on, lightweight - drawn one - value each way chance.

11.00 p.m. R10 2 EATON'S GOLD - App R Zawari (a2); the final event sees three stable representatives, the first another for the Fortuna team, has drawn best (3) and carries 55kgs in this Class 4 1100m on the polytrack. A consistent and honest campaigner, he is always dangerous in Class 4 grade - top four chance.

11.00 p.m. R10 3 PURE JUSTICE - Gerald Mosse; the second for Mark Walker has drawn out (nine of 11) and wqill carry 55.5kgs.  He has been a consistent placegetter and is just struggling to get a win so might need an easier grade.

11.00 p.m. R10 5 HAYTHAM - Oscar Chavez; the final runner for the weekend and completing the trio for the stable in this S$60,000 affair was a stylish last start winner.  Today he carries 54 kgs and will break from barrier six.  He had a spell and freshened, he look well - top four chance.
