Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
5 March, 2017
The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, the Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 18 winners this season and currently leads the Trainers' Premiership.
Sunday 5 March -
5.50 p.m. R1 2 HAYTHAM - Gerald Mosse; two in the first of the day for Te Akau trainer Mark Walker, the Kranji Stakes D SW 1100m on the polytrack. Awkwardly drawn at 10, he carries 58kgs for the international rider and was a winner three starts ago, with two solid races since, including a third placing two back. Challenging barrier draw but he in good form - a top four chance.
5.50 p.m. R1 3 THE COSMOS - Shafiq Rizuan; the second for Mark Walker has drawn more favourably (6) in this field of 12. He has freshened up nicely and rates a top four chance.
6.50 p.m. R3 3 CHAMPAGNE REIN - Gerald Mosse; again two stable representatives in this Class 4 1000m on the polytrack. The first, this Captain Rio 5YO, was twice third placed two and three starts ago and draws barrier eight, carrying 56.5kgs. He disappointed last time on the turf but 1000m suits - top five chance.
6.50 p.m. R3 9 LIM'S SHINE - Danny Beasley; the second for the stable in this field of 12 unfortunately has copped a wide draw (11) and will carry 54.5kgs. The 4YO son of Swiss Ace went a handy debut for fourth however this race looks too short for him.
7.20 p.m. R4 8 PRETTY ELUSIVE - Manuel Nunes; A full field of 14 runners for this Class 5 1200m on the turf long course A where he has drawn out at 10 and carries 57.5kgs. A tidy winner two starts ago, he is going honest races and is in good form - a top four chance
8.20 p.m. R6 4 AUSPICIOUS ACE - Alan Munro; another with good form (1-4-5) should prove competitive in this Kranji Stakes D SW 1100m on the polytrack. He's drawn to advantage, jumping from the ace in the 12-strong field and will carry 56.5kgs. He disappointed last start but back in an easier grade, poses a top four chance.
8.55 p.m. R7 7 EATON'S GOLD - App CK Ng (a3); an apprentice claim will see this veteran carry just 49.5kgs in the Class 3 1200m on the turf long course A where he has drawn 11 of 14. Showing he still enjoys his racing with a 4-1-6-4 formline, this class will probably be too tough for him and he needs to drop back a class to be competitive.
9.25 p.m. R8 1 ASPEN - Shafiq Rizuan; this 6YO son of Alamosa would appreciate any rain as he steps out in the Class 5 1600m on the turf long course A. He has drawn the carpark and carries 57kgs - so a difficult barrier draw but is in good form - a top four chance.
10.35 p.m. R10 9 KEEN DRAGON - Shafiq Rizuan; a good draw (4) in the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack where he carries 55.5kgs for the S$60,000 event. Facing 11 other competitors, he is a last start winner - this is a harder grade but still a top five chance.
11.05 p.m. R11 5 IKING - Shafiq Rizuan; again two stable starters with the first drawing the best (2 of 14) in this Class 4 1600m on the turf long course A. With 57.5kgs on his back, he will break from barrier two with 57.5kgs carded. An older horse now, he is still going nice races - a top four chance.
11.05 p.m. R11 5 STORM TROOPER - N Juglall; this son of Tavistock is another who would grow another leg with any rain. However gate 14 of 14 is not helpful at all and he will need a huge dose of luck. With 56kgs, rain will be his friend.
