Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, Te Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 29 winners and currently leads the Trainers' Premiership.

Sunday 23 April

4.40 p.m. R1 4 ELHAAAME - I Saifudin; the day begins with three Mark Walker runners in this Class 5 1100m on the polytrack - the first draws best (3) and carries 55.5kgs. Running into bad luck last start, this 3YO's form both starts prior was solid enough when finishing third and fourth however would prefer to see him on the grass.

4.40 p.m. R1 8 BEST JADE - Manuel Nunes; the second for the stable draws wider (8 of 11) and with the champion rider aboard carries 54kgs. With a third and fourth under his belt from his last two appearances, this 4YO rates a top four chance.

4.40 p.m. R1 9 PRETTY ELUSIVE - App CK Ng (a3); the third of the trio will jump from gate five and carry just 51kgs with the apprentice aboard. He does need a weaker grade to be competitive.

5.10 p.m. R2 13 HONOR - TBA; doubtful starter in the Maiden 1200m on the polytrack, he has drawn gate 11 of 12, is weighted with 53.5kgs and requires a scratching to make the field.

5.40 p.m. R3 8 TURQUOISE KING - Manuel Nunes; this 6YO Stratum gelding is in arguably career best form and his recent racing underlines this (4-2-3-1-3) fact. He has drawn the coveted ace for the Kranji Stakes C SW 1600m on the polytrack which only sees eight starters and carries 55kgs for the top jockey. He is racing well - a top four chance.

5.10 p.m. R4 1 QINGDAO - Manuel Nunes; two stable starters line up in this Open Maiden WFA 1700m on the polytrack - the first draws gate three and carries 58kgs. Having his fourth start today, he hasn't had a lot of luck lately but finds a weaker field - top four chance in this line-up of ten.

5.10 p.m. R4 3 JACK'S SECRET - App R Zawari (a2); this very consistent son of Sakhee's Secret since arriving in Singapore draws inside his stablemate (2) and with the apprentice up, is weighted with 56kgs. With a solid formline of 6-4-2-5-3, he deserves to break through for a win.

6.40 p.m. R5 5 ASPREY - App CK Ng (a3); he unfortunately draws the extreme outside in this field of 11 starters for the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack. Dropping to 52kgs with the apprentice claim, the 5YO by Alamosa was a winner three starts back - he has been a little disappointing of late - might need an easier assignment.

7.45 p.m. R7 2 KEEN DRAGON - App R Zawari (a2); this six year old is in fine form and draws 7 of 12 for the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack where he carries 56kgs courtesy of the apprentice allowance. He boasts a win and two second placings from his last four outings and this senior is holding his form - top four chance.

8.15 p.m. R8 1 CLUTHA LAD - App Z Syed (a4); another senior who is really hitting his straps, this son of Thorn Park has been in great form of late (2-5-1-2-3) and takes his place in this Class 5 1900m as top weight, jumping from gate 11. In this field of 12, he will take benefit from the apprentice claim and drop to 55kgs - a top four chance.

9.25 p.m. R10 6 EN CIVIL - App R Zawari (a2); he draws midfield (6 of 12) for the Class 4 1200m on the polytrack and carries 54.5kgs in this 12 strong assembly. He too is a senior and probably needs a weaker grade.

9.55 p.m. R11 1 CHAMPAGNE REIN - App Z Syed (a4); two stable starters for the final event on the programme, the Class 4 1000m on the polytrack where the first cops the car-park draw (12 of 12) but he carries 53.5kgs with the junior rider aboard. He is in good form - if he can get luck from the draw, he rates a top four chance.

9.55 p.m. R11 3 FINE CHOICE - App R Zawari (a2); the last for the night and second of the stable duo in this draws to advantage (3) and also carries 53.5kgs with the apprentice riding. This son of Coats Choice is coming back from a wind operation so expect improvement from the run.
