Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, the Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 38 winners and currently leads the Trainers' Premiership.

Sunday 4 June

4.55 p.m. R1 4 GANNET - Manuel Nunes; the day begins with Mark Walker lining up two of the 10 runners in the Kranji Stakes D SW 1600m on the turf short course B. The first has drawn the rank outside (10) and will carry 56.5kgs - disappointing so far, he needs to improve.

4.55 p.m. R1 5 HIDDEN PROMISE - Shafiq Rizuan; the second for the stable in this
S$38,000 event will jump from gate five and also carries 56.5kgs. A winner this preparation, he is really on the improve and starting to mature physically - a top four chance.

5.55 p.m. R3 5 DAMON - App R Zawari (a2); this very consistent horse (3-4-2-5-3) brings good form in to this Class 4 1200m on the turf short course B. He draws seven of 13 and carries 54kgs thanks to the apprentice claim. This distance is short of his best but with a lot of speed in this race, he is capable of a top four finish.

6.25 p.m. R4 1 IKING - App CK Ng (a3); another with an apprentice aboard, he drops to 55kgs and jumps from barrier six in this Kranji Stakes D SW 1600m on the turf short course B. Taking on nine other opponents, including a stablemate, even though he is an 8YO, it's the weakest field he has met for some time. He is Malaysia-bound but still capable of a top four finish.

6.25 p.m. R4 6 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - Alan Munro; the second runner for Mark Walker, he cops the widest draw (10) and is weighted with 56.5kgs. He has been very unlucky this campaign but finds a suitable race and the jockey is riding in great form - a top four chance.

9.35 p.m. R10 2 NAZIR - App R Zawari (a2); the last runner for Mark Walker tonight has won two of his past four starts and will break from gate six (of 11) in the Open Benchmark 83 over 1800m on the turf long course B. With the 2kgs weight relief, he drops to 56kgs - good run first up over 1400m - this distance suits him better. He faces a strong field but rates a top five chance.
