Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, Te Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 62 winners. He continues to dominate the Trainers' Premiership - with a 21-win lead.

Sunday 6 August

4.50 p.m. R1 2 HONOR - App M Poon (a2); Mark Walker lines up two starters in the first race on the programme - a Class 5 1000m on the polytrack. The first draws midfield (5 of 10) and with the apprentice claim gets some weight relief down to 57kgs. A daughter of Rip Van Winkle, she has been a touch disappointing but fresh up here - a place chance.

4.50 p.m. R1 4 OBSTACLES FREE - App R Zawari (a2); the second for the stable jumps from barrier six and also with an apprentice aboard, benefits with a weight relief carrying 57kgs. A 4YO by Coats Choice, he has also been somewhat disappointing and needs to improve.

5.20 p.m. R2 4 POWER WARRIOR - Vlad Duric; this Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA event is likewise run on the polytrack and it is start number three for this son of Power who draws barrier seven and carries 57kgs. With the leading Singapore rider up, he faces eight opponents over the 1100m however he too needs to step up

6.25 p.m. R4 9 BIG REGARDS - App CK Ng (a3); again on the polytrack for this Class 5 1600m where this son of Darci Brahma has drawn awkwardly (11 of 12) but drops to just 50.5kgs with the apprentice allowance. Again the trainer is looking for a sharp improvement.

6.55 p.m. R7 13 GANNET - Alan Munro; another less than advantageous draw (9) for this 5YO in the Class 4 1600m on the turf long course A. With only 52kgs on his back, he brings a solid form line into play here (3-4-0-2) and in this field of 11 starters, his last start second came on the polytrack.  Unfortunately he was balloted out last week from a more suitable race - top five chance.

7.30 p.m. R6 8 DISTINCTIVE DARCI - Alan Munro; Group 3 honours up for grabs in the S$200,000 Garden City Trophy for 3YOs and above. Raced on the turf long course A, this 3YO by multiple Champion Singapore sire Darci Brahma carries only 52.5kgs and has drawn gate five in the 11-strong feature field. A talented individual, as shown by his back to back wins at his last two starts, he in fact set a new Class record two starts ago and was only a touch outside the track record. He has come back this preparation in fine form and although this is on the turf - he rates a top four chance.

8.05 p.m. R7 3 MAJOR TOM - Shafiq Rizuan; Mark Walker lines up three runners in the Open Benchmark 1400m on the turf long course A. The first draws the ace and carries 56kgs. Yet another by leading sire Darci Brahma, he has shown plenty of ability and in fact has won three of his last four starts - towards the end of his last campaign and of course fresh up this time in. He is enjoying good form but faces a stronger field here - top four chance.

8.05 p.m. R7 8 LIM'S REFORM - App R Zawari (a2); the second for Mark Walker is a very honest and consistent type as evidenced by his recent results (5-3-3-2-1). Previously known as ‘Damon', this O'Reilly 6YO jumps from the 11 slot and with the apprentice aboard, carries 53kgs. With this formline rates a top four chance.

8.05 p.m. R7 13 SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD - Derreck David; the final of the stable trio is a 5YO son of Showcasing who has been in terrific form finishing first and second at his last two appearances. He draws out (9 of 14) and carries 54kgs - he is fresh up and if he gets a soft lead - a top four chance.

9.15 p.m. R9 7 AWATERE - Shafiq Rizuan; two runners for the stable in this Class 3 1200m on the turf long course A. A back to back winner two and three starts ago, this son of Charge Forward cops the widest draw (14) and carries 54kgs. He is in good form but from this horror draw he needs a ton of luck.

9.15 p.m. R9 14 STORM TROOPER - Derreck David; the final runner tonight is a solid, senior campaigner who would prefer some rain. He doesn't fare much better draw-wise (12) but does come in with a nice lightweight of 51.5kgs. His last three appearances last prep. resulted in a 3-4-1 result culminating in a tough win. A 6YO son of Tavistock, he is fresh up here over 1200m but is better suited over more distance later on.
