Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, Te Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 64 winners - including a winning double on Friday. He continues to dominate the Trainers' Premiership - now with a 24-win lead.

Sunday 20 August

5.20 p.m. R1 7 BEST JADE - Manuel Nunes; a handy draw (3 of 10) for Mark Walker's first runner in the first event on the programme, the Class 5 1100m on the polytrack. With 55kgs assigned, he has been disappointing and needs to lift.

5.50 p.m. R2 5 ELITE KINGDOM - Shafiq Rizuan; a 3YO by Animal Kingdom, he is having career start number three tonight, but his first start for the stable, in this Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA 1200m on the polytrack. He will jump from barrier five in the 12-strong field and has only 52.5kgs allocated. Chasing the thick end of the S$75,000, he rates a top five chance.

6.25 p.m. R3 1 PURE JUSTICE - App R Zawari (a2); a winner three starts ago, this 5YO has drawn gate six in a compact field of only eight runners and will carry 55kgs with the apprentice claim. The first of two for trainer Mark Walker in this Class 4 1000m sprint on the polytrack, he has had a wind operation and this is his first start back since that procedure - he needs to show improvement.

6.25 p.m. R3 6 HAYTHAM - Oscar Chavez; the second of the Mark Walker pair in the S$60,000 event has drawn the outside barrier (8) and carries 52kgs. The 4YO Saperavi gelding has also undergone a recent wind operation, so improvement here too will be sought.

7.00 p.m. R4 5 GANNET - Manuel Nunes; facing eight opponents in the Kranji Stakes D SW 1600m on the polytrack, this Duke of Marmalade gelding jumps from barrier eight and carries 56.5kgs. Now a 5YO, he has been somewhat disappointing and needs to step up.

7.35 p.m. R5 4 O'REILLY STAR - Shafiq Rizuan; this 4YO son of O'Reilly breaks from gate seven of 11 starters in the Open Maiden WFA 1100m on the polytrack. With 57.5kgs on his back, his form towards the end of his last prep. was solid with two third placings from his last two appearances. He has strengthened up and developed with his break - a top four chance.

8.05 p.m. R6 1 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - Craig Grylls; only the eight runners entered for this Kranji Stakes D SW 1600m on the polytrack where this 5YO draws midfield (4) and carries 58kgs. A winner two starts back, he is in very good form and has the good Kiwi rider aboard - a top four chance.

9.45 p.m. R9 6 VIVIANO - Vlad Duric; Singapore's Premiership leading trainer and Premiership leading jockey have forged a formidable partnership, and they team up here with this Raffles' Racing runner in the Open Benchmark 1200m on the polytrack. A winner two starts ago, he has unfortunately copped the extreme outside gate (12 of 12) and has 54.5kgs to carry. It's a pity about the barrier draw but he is enjoying good form and rates as a top four chance.
