Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview

The 2015 Champion Singapore Trainer and Trainers' Premiership winner, Te Akau's Mark Walker (who finished third on the 2016 Trainers' Premiership) has trained 74 winners - he continues to dominate the Trainers' Premiership - now with a 22-win lead.


Sunday 1 October

6.05 p.m. R1 2 SACRED GALAXY - Vlad Duric; two starters for Mark Walker in this Kranji Stakes D SW 1400m on the turf short course B. The first, for Raffles' Racing, draws worse than midfield (10) in this 14-strong line-up and carries joint top weight of 58kgs. A 5YO son of Flying Spur, he has finished in the top five in two of his three Singapore appearances and finds a suitable race but he does need to improve a touch - top five chance.

6.05 p.m. R1 5 ASPREY - Shafiq Rusof; the second for the stable has landed one outside of his stablemate (11) for the S$60,000 first event on the programme. Likewise with two reasonable placings from his last three outings, this 6YO son of Alamosa faces a difficult draw but is in good form - top four chance.

6.35 p.m. R2 2 O'REILLY STAR - Shafiq Rusof; unfortunately this Kiwi owned 4YO son of O'Reilly draws the carpark for the Initiation 4YO+Below WFA 1400m also on the turf short course B. With 57.5kgs assigned, he is a horse who really hasn't had the rub of the green draw-wise since transferring to Singapore but with a form-line of 5-3-3-5-7 he can make an impact in this S$65,000 14-strong event. He has a very awkward barrier again and will need a ton of luck - place chance.

7.05 p.m. R3 1 SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD - Vlad Duric; another race with a dual stable representation is this Class 4 1600m on the turf short course B. The first runner in the event for Mark Walker is a 5YO son of Showcasing who will bounce from the inside gate with 57kgs on his back. Another capable of making his presence felt (1-2-3-5-9), he is back to Class 4 level - top four chance.

7.05 p.m. R3 2 STORM TROOPER - Shafiq Rizuan; a solid 6YO campaigner he is the type who steps up when any rain comes. He draws barrier six of 13 and has also carries 57kgs. A winner four starts back, he went a solid race for third last time presented and another in good form - with any rain, a top four chance.

7.40 p.m. R4 9 HONOR - Craig Grylls; this 4YO Rip Van Winkle mare is from a lovely Kiwi staying family being out of Bak Da Princess but she will need some breaks tho go her way from barrier 11 of 14 starters in the Kranji Stakes D SW 1400m on the turf short course B. One of two for the stable in the event, she was a winner three starts ago, has the Kiwi rider aboard and 56.5kgs however she does need to improve.

7.40 p.m. R4 12 LIM'S SIGNATURE - App R Zawari (a2); the second of the stable duo is this 4YO Swiss Ace gelding who has also saluted the judge recently, winning three starts ago. He draws much better than his stablemate (5) and has 53kgs to carry in the S$38,000 event. thanks to the apprentice claim. He is starting to hit form, the blinkers go on - top four chance.

8.55 p.m. R6 2 SACRED SURFER - Vlad Duric; yet another race with two for the trainer and the first is also another to don the successful Raffles' Racing colours. A 5YO Choisir gelding having his fourth appearance in Singapore, he has twice finished in the money thus far and looks an improving type. In this Kranji Stakes D SW 1400m on the short course B he draws nicely (4) and has joint top weight of 58kgs. He finds a weaker Kranji D opposition today - top four chance.

8.55 p.m. R6 4 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - App R Zawari (a2); the second stable rep. draws the ace and has relief back to 56kgs with the apprentice up. Another enjoying solid form (1-9-4-5) in this field of 14, he is better over more distance but with a favourable barrier draw - top four chance.

11.10 p.m. R10 4 TURQUOISE KING - App R Zawari (a2); to complete the night it's yet another ‘tram of two' for the Kranji Stakes C SW 1400m on the turf short course B. Drawing nine of 13, dropping to 56kgs with the apprentice aboard, this 7YO needs further.

11.10 p.m. R10 ELITE GENERAL - Shafiq Rizuan; the final starter for the evening is this 5YO exceed and Excel gelding who will have to navigate a draw one from the outside (12) and is assigned 55kgs in the S$80,000 event. A winner four starts ago, he does however need to return to Class 4 to again be really competitive.
