Te Akau Singapore Sunday Preview
4 March, 2018
Singapore's Champion Trainer of 2015 and 2017, Te Akau's Mark Walker lies third on the Trainers' Premiership this season with 10 wins.

Sunday 4 March

6.20 p.m. R1 5 KASHAN - Vlad Duric; the first for the stable on a busy Sunday draws the ace for the Class 5 1600m on the turf long course C where he carries 56kgs. Facing a field of the 13, the last start winner is in very good form and - with the added plus of last season's champion rider aboard, he rates a top four prospect.
6.50 p.m. R2 2 BURGUNDY PRINCE - App R Zawari (a1); Mark Walker lines up a third of the field of nine starters for this Restricted Maiden 2&3YO WFA 1200m on the turf long course C. The first, a son of Burgundy as his name suggests, draws out at seven of the nine runners and drops a kilo to 56kgs for the apprentice. He is a 3YO that looks to require further.
6.50 p.m. R2 4 LIM'S ZOOM - Glen Boss; the second of the trio in this S$85,000 event draws to be dangerous (3 of 9) and has 57kgs for the top Australian rider. After a promising debut for third, he has trained on well and has plenty of ability - top four chance.
6.50 p.m. R2 7 BAN THE DOUBT - Vlad Duric; the third runner for the stable is on debut tonight and has the leading rider engaged. An Australian-bred 3YO filly by Not A Single Doubt, she has the outside barrier (9) and 55.5kgs allocated. She is a nice individual that will require further so this is a starting point - place chance.
7.20 p.m. R3 4 JACK'S SECRET - Vlad Duric; racing in the Fortuna colours in the Class 4 non-premier 1600m on the polytrack, this 5YO has drawn handily (5 of 12) and is weighted with 55.5kgs. With two second placings from his last two starts, he certainly is knocking at the door of the winner's circle and just missed narrowly last time - top four chance.
8.20 p.m. R5 1 BLACK QUAIL - Vlad Duric; dual representation for the stable in this Class 4 non-premier 1600m on the polytrack where the first of Mark Walker's two runners draws barrier three and carries 57kgs. A 4YO by Coats Choice, he has shown plenty of promise since re-locating to Singapore for his Kiwi owners and this last start winner is in very good form - he should be hard to beat.
8.20 p.m. R5 7 OBSTACLES FREE - Ismail Azhar; the second in this field of only seven has some interesting comparisons to his aforementioned stablemate Black Quail - he too is a 4YO by Coats Choice and likewise, a last start winner! He draws one outside his stablemate (4) but has just 52.5kgs on his back. Whilst a winner at his last outing, this is a tougher field he now faces - place chance.
9.25 p.m. R7 1 BEN GUNN - Craig Grylls; another race with multi-runners for the stable - three in total for this Class 4 premier 1200m on the turf long course C. The first of the three won on debut, confirming the regard in which he is held. For tonight's second up run, he jumps from gate eight and has 57kgs to carry. Whilst he was a surprise winner on debut, he too faces a tougher assignment - place chance.
9.25 p.m. R7 3 SACRED GURU - App R Zawari (a1); having his second start for the Raffles Racing team, he went a nice race on debut for sixth and tonight breaks from gate two and is weighted with 56kgs with the apprentice up. He is an improver and rates a place chance.
9.25 p.m. R7 5 TURF BEAUTY - Vlad Duric; second start tonight for the third of Mark Walker's runners in this S$60,000 event. Facing only nine opponents (that includes his two stablemates) he draws the outside barrier and has 57kgs assigned. He is a horse who will take benefit from any rain.
10.00 p.m. R8 1 ELITE INVINCIBLE - Glenn Boss; another double team attack here for the stable in this Class 2 1400m on the turf long course C where the first of the two breaks from gate four and has 57kgs for the internationally successful rider. The winner of three of his last four starts, this 4YO is highly promising and presents as a top four chance.
10.00 p.m. R8 9 KINGSMAN - App Mohamad Firdaus (a1); the final runner of the trio is a very capable son of Darci Brahma raced by New Zealand connections. The 4YO draws gate eight and has only 51.5kgs on his back in the S$100,000 event. With a form line of 1-2-6-4-1, this last start winner poses as a dangerous lightweight chance.
10.35 p.m. R9 5 SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD - App Noorman Hanafi (a4); for fear of sounding repetitious - it's a case of two nominated again for the stable for this Class 3 1400m on the turf long course C. The first of the team is a smart 5YO son of Showcasing who will relish the 4kg apprentice claim, dropping to 52.5kgs and drawing the ace marble. With the plus of that draw, he looks a good place chance.
10.35 p.m. R9 14 STORM TROOPER - App Mohamad Firdaus (a1); a stable stalwart who always loves to see a bit of rain, this 6YO Tavistock gelding jumps from gate two of the 14 runners and has 51.5kgs to carry with the apprentice claim. He went a boomer fresh up, finishing off his race strongly for third - top four chance.
11.05 p.m. R10 4 PURE JUSTICE - Vlad Duric; to wrap the night, this 5Yo composts the Class 4 non-premier 1000m on the polytrack - drawing advantageously (2 of 12) with 57.5kgs allocated. He in great form on the training track and on the strength of that work, if he brings it to the race night, he has to be considered a top four chance.
