Te Akau Singapore Weekend Preview

Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where trainer Mark Walker leads the premiership with 20 wins since the season started on January 1.

Friday February 27

11.50 p.m. R2 1 Falcon (4 g Falkirk - Grand Princess) - Michael Rodd; drew barrier three of twelve in the $65,000 Initiation 1400 metres on the turf short course B and carries 58kgs. Looking good and working well, he should receive a lovely trip from the draw and can capitalize to rate a top four chance - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

11.50 p.m. R2 12 Storm Trooper (3 g Tavistock - Shock) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier eight twelve in the $65,000 Initiation 1400 metres on the turf short course B and carries 54.5kgs. While stepping up in distance will suit, it becomes more difficult to make ground on the short course. But able to secure a midfield position can see him round off into the first three.

12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R4 3 Q Nine Magic (4 g Guillotine - Skag Way) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier nine of eleven in the $60,000 Class 4 1200 metres on the poly track and carries 57kgs. Training on nicely since his first up fourth in Singapore, he showed in trials to handle the poly track and looks a top four chance with a reasonable passage from an awkward draw.

1.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 3 Forever Ahead (4 g Saperavi - Sweet Dreams Baby) - Razali Zawari (a3); drew barrier ten of eleven in the $35,000 Class 5 1200 metres on the turf short course B and carries 53.5kgs. He can produce an improved performance, having been freshened, in this race for apprentice riders - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

1.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 4 Gods Speed (5 g Circular Quay - Gods Ear) - Harry Kasim (a1); drew barrier seven of eleven in the $35,000 Class 5 1200 metres on the turf short course B and carries 55.5kgs. Short of his best distance, running on encouragingly will be a step in the right direction.

2.20 a.m. (Saturday) R7 3 Aspen (4 g Alamosa - Kirin Belle) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier eight of twelve in the $80,000 Class 3 1400 metres on the turf short course B and carries 55.5kgs. He faces a very strong field, but trainer Mark Walker has been happy with his condition and work through the week. Luck from the draw and genuine pace can allow this talented gallop a chance of running home into the first four.

3.20 a.m. (Saturday) R9 6 Iking (6 g Holy Roman Emperor - Lacada) - Craig Newitt; drew barrier four of twelve in the $60,000 Class 4 1600 metres on the turf short course B and carries 55.5kgs. He has been working well and should appreciate a mile on turf. He does meet quite a strong field, but able to take advantage of the draw can see him produce an encouraging performance.

Sunday March 1

6.20 p.m. R2 13 Aguila Azteca (3 f Minstrel Court - La Conga) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier eleven of thirteen in the $75,000 Restricted Maiden 1200 metres on the turf short course B and carries 55.5kgs. Making her debut, she has trialled and worked nicely. Hopefully her great gate speed can help negate the wide barrier and that she handles the occasion to rate a top four chance.

6.50 p.m. R3 2 Top of the Town (5 g Strategic Image - Jasmond) - Michael Rodd; drew barrier six of eight in the $75,000 Novice 1600 metres on the turf short course B and carries 58kgs. He has a top rider aboard to give him every chance.

Making his debut in Singapore, he will be ridden quietly from the wide gate and hopefully be finding the line strongly at the business end.
