Te Akau Singapore Weekend Preview

Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore, where trainer Mark Walker leads the premiership with 30 wins since the season started on 1 January.

Friday April 10

10.20 p.m. R1 5 Gods Speed (5 g Circular Quay - Gods Ear) - Craig Newitt; drew barrier six of sixteen (14 run) in the $35,000 Class 5 1600 metres on the turf long course B and carries 57kgs. Trainer Mark Walker says the horse has been working well and seems bright. While the No. 7 horse (Peregrine Falcon) should prove hard to beat, he receives a good chance to race well.

6.50 p.m. R5 2 Captain Classique (2 g Captain Rio - Lady Classique) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier three of seven in the $90,000 2YO Stakes 1100 metres on the poly track and carries 55kgs. Nunes has been very pleased with his work through the week and while No. 1 (Kubera Warrior) has experience and No. 7 (Super One) has a rap on him, he should acquit himself well to rate a top four chance. He recorded two wins and a second at the trials when prepared by Te Akau NZ, before heading to Singapore.

7.25 p.m. R6 5 Bremner (4 g Manduro - Maggie Lou) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier twelve of sixteen (15 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf long course C and carries 57.5kgs. Third on debut after tracking up from back in the field, he will adopt similar tactics again from a wide draw - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

7.25 p.m. R6 6 Chase (3 g Nicconi - Speedos) - Shafiq Rusof (a1); drew barrier thirteen of sixteen (15 run) in the $60,000 Class 4 1400 metres on the turf long course C and carries 56.5kgs. He faces a strong field, but came through his fresh up run in good order. He gets back in his races, so the draw is fine and a genuine pace could see him round off into the first four.
