Te Akau Singapore Weekend Preview
17 October, 2014
Te Akau horses racing at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore.
Friday October 17
11.20 p.m. R1 8 Mala Mala (4 g Any Suggestion - Waitui Belle) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier six of twelve in the $35,000 Maiden 1400 metres on the turf short course D and carries 55kgs. Trainer Mark Walker has been happy with his work leading in and he appears a good each way chance in this field.
11.50 p.m. R2 1 Falcon (4 g Falkirk - Grand Princess) - Lisa Allpress; drew barrier five of nine in the $65,000 Initiation 1200 metres on the turf short course D and carries 57.5kgs. He has trained on very well since his first up third and should appreciate a switch to the turf track, where the aim is to settle handy.
12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R4 1 Toast's Angel (5 m Fast ‘N' Famous - Haberdashery) - Desmond Chan (a4); drew barrier seven of ten in the $38,000 Kranji D 1100 metres on the poly track, for claiming riders, and carries 54kgs. This race appears most suitable for her - one of two in the race for Te Akau.
12.50 a.m. (Saturday) R4 5 Select Gathering (6 g Choisir - Naturally) - Hassan Amin (a4); drew barrier two of ten in the $38,000 Kranji D 1100 metres on the poly track, for claiming riders, and carries 52.5kgs. He meets an average field and our apprentice jockey knows him well. He will look to take advantage of the draw and run home strongly.
1.20 a.m. (Saturday) R5 1 Sacred Spin (4 g Hardspun - Destina) - Manoel Nunes; drew barrier five of twelve in the $35,000 Maiden 1400 metres on the turf short course D and carries 58.5kgs. Although a little disappointing of late, he looks terrific and an improved performance is expected.
2.55 a.m. (Saturday) R8 8 Fiscal Wings (6 g Fusaichi Pegasus - Cashier) - Hassan Amin (a4); drew barrier one of eleven in the $38,000 Kranji D 1100 metres on the poly track, for claiming riders, and carries 51kgs. Fifth last time out and with a light weight from barrier one there are a couple of factors to suggest he could again finish in the top five.
3.25 a.m. (Saturday) R9 1 Jefferson Bay (7 g Encosta De Lago - Devil's Lair) - Hassan Amin (a4); drew barrier four of fourteen in the $60,000 Benchmark 67 over 1100 metres on the poly track and carries 53kgs. Off a freshen-up, this is a starting point for him and the sprint trip is likely to prove too sharp.
Sunday October 19
6.50 p.m. R3 8 Single Act (5 g Bachelor Duke - Consumer) - Lisa Allpress; drew barrier seven of ten in the $60,000 Class 4 1800 metres on the poly track and carries 52kgs. He is a horse with ability, but hard to follow and connections are hoping for an improved performance.
10.55 p.m. R7 11 Riedel (5 g Saperavi - La Conga) - Lisa Allpress; drew barrier six of twelve in the $100,000 Benchmark 83 1400 metres on the turf short course E and carries 52kgs. It was planned to run in the Class 3 1700 metres but the race was cancelled due to lack of entries. He has been kept fresh for the shorter trip although it is a tougher assignment.
