Te Akau South Island Tuesday Trials


Te Akau trialled horses at Riccarton on Monday 29 September, including horses that were not able to race on Saturday during to the abandonment of the fin al two races -


Weather: fine, track: Good4, rail: out 8 metres.

Heat 3 Open 1000 metres (½ length, ¾ lengths 57.7)

Cool Aza Rene (3 f Cool Aza Beel – Irene) – Katherine Hadler; she got back equal last, tracked up widest into the straight and kept closing strongly for a good finish for second. 

Vivacious (5 m Dundeel – Vivi Veloce) – Yogesh Atchamah; she travelled fifth on the inner and held a similar position in the straight over sprint trip. 

Porcia Catonis (4 m Super Seth – Dark Heather) – Floor Moerman; she settled back equal last on the inner, and remained back over the sprint trip. 


Heat 4 Open 1000 metres (7 lengths, head 57.1)

Queen Of Naples (4 m Darci Brahma – Tiffany’s Time) – Katherine Hadler; she began well to travel handily behind the leaders, and once clear she let down strongly for an eye-catching second. 

Insatiable (6 g All Too Hard – All Day Baby) – Yogesh Atchamah; he was steadied back, went clear into the straight, and found the line solidly under his own steam for solid third. 

Corps D’Elite (4 m So You Think – Illuminati) – Floor Moerman; she sprung from barrier one, settling in third place and remained nicely held together in what was a quiet trial outing. 


Heat 5 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (length, head 57.9)

Options Open (3 f Darci Brahma – Optimiser) – Yogesh Atchamah; she travelled handily, improved to trail on the inner when turning for home, and rounded off solidly for fourth. 


Heat 10 Open 800 metres (½ length, length 46.8)

Hooray For Harry (4 g Harry Angel – Here We Come) – Katherine Hadler; he was held together in the lead from barrier one and maintained the advantage to go on to win nicely. 

Best Rose (3 f Maurice – Queen’s Legacy) – Floor Moerman; she travelled behind the leaders, was held together in the straight, and was not not far away in fifth at the line. 

Legally Binding (4 g Exceedance – Legal Eagle) – Yogesh Atchamah; sone of the favourites for Saturday's races who did not get a start, he steadied back when carted wide early, was clear rounding the home turn, and not asked for much when running home very well for third.
