Te Akau South & NSW Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Saturday 12 September: Riccarton, and Kembla Grange (New South Wales).

Riccarton:

Weather: showery, track: Slow7, rail: out 7 metres. No rain forecast.

1.13 p.m. R3 7 Summer Monsoon (6 g Stratum - Princess
Narine) - Rohan Mudhoo (a2); was not far away when resuming in the Rating 104
1300 metres on 19 August at Taupo, and contests the $30,000 Rating 91 1400
metres. He won two of three starts while campaigning last season in the South Island,
aided by weight relief to 53kgs and should go well with the right trip from
barrier 11. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.15.

1.48 p.m. R4 4 Markus Aurelius (4 g Ghibellines -
Evancho) - Jason Laking; followed two strong performances with a super gallop
to win over 1400 metres in March at Matamata, and wound up late for sixth when
resuming in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 12 August at Taupo. Although bred to go further,
he rates a top three chance with blinkers on in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400
metres. Fixed odds: $2.90 & $1.40.

2.58 p.m. R6 11 Mazzuro (6 g Rip Van Winkle - Mini
Pearl) - Samantha Wynne; took charge to win over 2100 metres last season at Te
Rapa, rolled home in staying fashion when trialling in August at Te Teko, and
resumes in the $30,000 Rating 94 1600 metres. Likely to find some a touch
sharp, but finding the line would be a step in the right direction. Fixed odds:
$13.00 & $3.70.

3.33 p.m. R7 5 Age of Fire (6 g Fastnet Rock -
Dragon's Tail) - Rohan Mudhoo (a2); got into his work boldly over the final
200m when trialling in August at Te Teko, and resumes in the $30,000 Rating 97
1200 metres. Group 1 winner of the Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m), after finishing
second to stable-mate Embellish (Savabeel) here in the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1,
1600m). Likely to get back over a sprint trip and look for him finding the
line. Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.50.

3.33 p.m. R7 9 Aotea Lad (4 g Savabeel - Corsage) - Samantha Wynne; finished fifth after contesting the pace in a good field when resuming in the Rating 93 1100 metres on 19 August at Taupo. A horse with ability and former nominee for Champion Two-Year-Old, he is looking to recapture form and carries minimum weight in the $30,000 Rating 97 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.25.

Kembla Grange (N.S.W.):

Weather: overcast, track: Soft5, rail: true. No rain forecast.

3.44 p.m. (NZ time) R3 6 Pazienza (3 f Written Tycoon - Gypsy
Chimes) - Jay Ford; impressed winning on debut as a two-year-old in March over
1000 metres at Trentham, trialled well in July at Te Rapa, and looked very good
when leading throughout in a trial on 25 August at Randwick. Resuming in the
$35,000 Class 1 1000 metres, she has no shortage of ability and expected to
prove tough to beat.

6.55 p.m. (NZ time) R8 13 Get Hitched (4 m Lonhro - Wedding) -
Jay Ford; impressed winning at the trials before a fresh-up victory over 1200
metres in March at Matamata. She stretched out nicely from off the pace when
trialling in July at Te Rapa, and trialled well again for fifth on 25 August at
Randwick. Kicking off in the $35,000 Rating 64 1200 metres, she has a wide draw
(14) to overcome but capable of a bold showing in an open race.
