Te Akau South Waikato Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the eight race programme on Wednesday March 11 at Matamata.

As on race morning, the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail out 3 metres.

1.28 p.m. R1 6 Seline (4 m Pentire - Dion) - Matt Cameron; was shuffled back through the field before winding up a solid finish for third on Feb. 19 in the Maiden 1850 metres at Wairoa. Unlucky not have broken through for a maiden win, she has raced well here on her home track and should receive all favours from barrier one in the Maiden 2000 metres.

2.38 p.m. R3 1 Gran Via (2 c Stratum - The Party Stand) - Matt Cameron; makes his debut from barrier six in the Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. Securing a rails run from off the pace, he scored a smart 800-metre trial win, by four lengths, here on Feb. 24. His dam, The Party Stand (Thorn Park), included victory in the NZ Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m) amongst seven wins from only seventeen starts. She impressed winning over 1200 metres, and showed a great affinity on this course with two wins. He certainly has inherited her ability and shapes as a genuine chance in the race.

3.13 p.m. R4 8 Atua (3 g Murtajill - Silent Smytzer) - Matt Cameron; has been given time since resuming over 1200 metres on Jan. 26 at Te Teko, and now wears blinkers for the Maiden 1200 metres. Drawn the outside barrier in a field of fourteen, he has fared better drawing barrier two, but unfortunately fourth on the ballot, at the meeting on Thursday at Te Aroha. He has also been nominated for the Maiden 1200 metres on Saturday at Te Rapa.
