Te Akau Sunday Update

David writes:

Karyn and I always enjoy it when Sam Boyd comes to stay at Te Akau Stud!  Sam is part of our family so we were really happy when Sam arrived on Saturday for a couple of days.  Yesterday of course we went to the Te Rapa races.

I was the driver as I never have a drink in February when I am busy selling shares in all the horses we have bought.  Yesterday at the races one of my good friends asked me if I had a quiet drink during February when only Karyn was there - this really made me laugh!  When DC says he isn't doing something, there are no exceptions!!

This weekend has been amazing for selling shares - the "sold" sign has gone up on our O'Reilly/Tuesday's Child colt, the Darci Brahma/Bosphorus colt, the Savabeel/Gold Rocks filly and our Exceed and Excel colt - all have the "sold" sign up tonight.

I can assure you that the shares in our remaining yearlings are shares in VERY good young horses - every year people say to me "hmmmmm hasn't sold straight away, why not?" I can assure you it is just different people liking different horses and we do not ever buy a horse that we wouldn't be happy to race ourselves should the shares not sell - however our shares always sell!

We still have shares available in these striking youngsters:

From the Gold Coast ... see our Yearlings and Shares page for all the details ...

25%  Commands/Adulterer colt (featured in today's Sunday Star Times)

10%  Smart Missile/Ocelot colt (the half to our Singapore star Flying Fulton who won six stakes' races and $1.3 million)

From Karaka ...

25%  Pour Moi/Be Inspired filly (by an exciting young sire and out of a Zabeel mare, stunning cross)

20%  Makfi/Bislieri filly (a full sister to the hugely talented Group winner Sofia Rosa)

15%  Snitzel/My My Maree colt (by a champion Australian sire, a half brother to last season's champion 2YO Marky Mark)

20%  Pour Moi/November Rain colt (by an exciting young sire and superb Group winning dam)

100%  Darci Brahma/Kudamm colt (by top class sire Darci from a stakes' performed mare)

So you can see what a huge success the sales have been for Te Akau - and that is only because we have fantastic, supportive existing owners and terrific new owners who want to share in our fun and professionalism.  Each day I really enjoy going around the farm with different owners showing them the yearlings - their new horses - and the farm.  It also gives me a great opportunity to keep a close eye on the yearlings myself.

One yearling that I really love is the Pour Moi colt out of the tremendous Stravinsky race mare November Rain who won the highly rated Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes at Te Rapa and was runner up in both the Group 1 Easter Handicap and Group 1 NZ Oaks.  She had a blistering turn of foot.

I place on record now that I will be unbelievably surprised if this isn't a top colt!  I see him being a Group 1 Sires' Produce colt that would train on to be a Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas' contender - we know how to win that race, having won five Guineas in the last 11 years!

Of course he is by the English Derby winner Pour Moi who was one of four Derby winners for Montjeu.  As I said, he is out of the outstanding race mare November Rain - this colt was purchased by me for $300,000 plus GST so a 10% share is $30,000 plus GST or you can have a 5% share for $15,000 plus GST.

If you want the real deal - he is right up there - call me now on 07 825 4701 or email Karyn - [email protected]
