Te Akau Sunday Update

David writes:

What great racing we had in New Zealand and in Australia on Saturday!  And what a fantastic result for the Kiwis!  Isn't Waikato Stud on fire with its stallions winning Group 1 races in Sydney at this carnival is what breeding is all about.  It was certainly a huge day for Savabeel and O'Reilly and we can't wait to see what the little Rock 'n' Pops do in the future too!

In hindsight wasn't Rock 'n' Pop stiff to run up against (the late nominated) Silent Achiever in the Group 1 NZ Derby? - a world class mare bred by Kevin Hickman.  Kevin has horses with Te Akau and we are so thrilled for him with this success.

I thought too that if you have ever seen an Oaks' filly trial well it was Lucia Valentina.  This Savabeel filly really looks top class to me and I will be surprised if she doesn't win or go very close in the Oaks in two weeks in Sydney.

At this year's Karaka Sale, I bought three O'Reilly and seven Savabeel yearlings.  While all of the O'Reillys have been sold, we still have a couple of shares available in our crack Savabeels - have a look at this filly by Savabeel ...

Lot 315

This filly is pure class and is very like the filly who won the Group 1 yesterday at Royal Randwick.  Drop Karyn a note if you are interested - Karyn is taking a share in this filly herself - [email protected].

We have sold over 95% of our yearlings from Karaka and I would like to congratulate everyone who has taken shares.  They are a beautiful group of yearlings and let's hope we are all at Royal Randwick in a year's time!

This morning I was out on the farm early looking at all our horses and this afternoon I am going around the sheep and cattle farm while Karyn has her final day in the office for the week.

Tomorrow Karyn and I are off to Sydney for the week to go to the Easter sale and the races next weekend.  I was really looking forward to inspecting the Redoute's Choice filly out of Princess Coup but she has been withdrawn from the sale.

If you are keen to be involved in a yearling from Sydney please call me on 021 925 151 or email Karyn - [email protected].

Also coming up is the South Island Session of the Karaka Sale - and we will also be attending this sale looking to buy more horses, particularly for Singapore.  Then next month our attention turns to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions Sale at the end of May. This is the same sale where I bought Integrate, Princess Coup, Tell A Tale and Costa Viva so we are all very much looking forward to being back there.

Jamie Richards will be in the South Island from Wednesday and he would love to meet you and show you some of the yearlings that take the eye.  Call our office if you would like us to put you in touch with him - 07 825 4701.

Have a great week and I look forward to sending you Sydney reports over the next few days!
