Te Akau Taranaki Friday Preview

Te Akau Racing has eight horses entered on Friday 18 February at New Plymouth.

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 3 metres from 800m to 400m. 3mls rain forecast Friday.

12:26 p.m. R1 4 La Flora Belle (4 m Iffraaj - Tsarina Belle) - Sam Weatherley; ran home solidly from well back in a Maiden 1600 metres on 2 February at Te Rapa, and steps up in the $12,000 Maiden 1800 metres. She is racing well and rates a top three chance.

1:02 p.m. R2 7 Molly Shaw (2 f Burgundy - Belorussiya) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); quickened well for second when trialling on 1 February at Cambridge (poly-track), and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 2YO 1100 metres. Her dam won twice to 1670 metres and was placed 10 times. She is favourably drawn (4) for her first raceday outing.

1:37 p.m. R3 5 Midnight Special (4 m Excelebration - Midnight Van Damme) - Sam Weatherley; settled last before posting the fastest last 600m (34.2) for fifth in a Maiden 1200 metres on 30 January at Ellerslie, and contests the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Unfortunately she has drawn wide (12), and settling is the key to her chances.

2:12 p.m. R4 5 Navalha (3 g Sebring - Afiado) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); made it two from two over 1200 metres at a similar time last year and ran home strongly for third when trialling on 11 January at Cambridge (poly-track). He resumed with a notable fifth, running 32.7 last 600m, in a Rating 74 1100 metres on 30 January at Ellerslie. He has weight relief to 54.5kg, draws well in barrier two, and rates a top three prospect in the $12,000 Rating 74 1200 metres.

2:47 p.m. R5 9 A Little Bit Bossy (3 f Rock ‘n' Pop - Molly Coco) - Niranjan Parmar (a3); showed pace to trail and was resilient finishing third when debuting in a Maiden 1200 metres on 30 January at Ellerslie. She has been solid through trials stage prior, enjoys weight relief to 53kg, has drawn handily at three, and is capable of a top three finish in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

3:57 p.m. R7 11 Invincibeel (3 f Savabeel - Matakana) - Kozzi Asano; unleashed powerfully from back in the field to win a Maiden 1600 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa, and was without room after getting back in the Desert Gold Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) on 29 January at Trentham. She is back in class for the $12,000 Rating 65 1800 metres, and will make her presence felt.

4:32 p.m. R8 8 Outfit (3 f Tivaci - Costume) - Kozzi Asano; quickly ascended when winning a Maiden 1600 metres on 18 December at Te Rapa, before finishing back in the Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) won by stable-mate Self Obsession (Shocking) on 1 January at Ellerslie, who franked the form by winning the David & Karyn Ellis Fillies' Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m) last Saturday at Te Rapa. She looked good in an exhibition gallop with stable-mate and Champion Two-Year-Old Sword of State (Snitzel) last Saturday at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $60,000 Grangewilliam Stud ‘Derryn' Oaks Prelude (Listed, 1800m). ]She has the quality to be competitive, but requires luck from her awkward draw (14). Fixed odds: $4.80 & $2.00.
