Te Akau Taranaki Preview
16 April, 2014
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the nine-race programme on Thursday April 17 at New Plymouth.
As on Wednesday April 16 the conditions were: overcast and Slow7, rail out 6 metres.
12:37pm R2 6 Sunset Pass (5 g Yamanin Vital - Janet's Chance) - Daniel Miller (a3); resumes from a 158-day break in the Benchmark 65 1800 metres. He is a stronger article this time in and has had the benefit of two trials. While preparing for a return to hurdling, in which his only start to date produced a fine effort for third with this rider aboard at Te Rapa, he can produce a cheeky race fresh and the young rider is in good touch.
1:10pm R3 1 Stanica Star (7 g Danzero - Stanica) - Mick Dee (a1); is on the backup after a solid effort for fourth last Thursday, when racing quite fresh, in the Benchmark 85 1600 metres at Awapuni. Unbeaten in two starts on the course, and a winner of the corresponding race when last here on Dec. 23, he will be hoping track conditions remain stable or improve from the current state in order to show his best.
2:20pm R5 7 Seline (3 f Pentire - Dion) - Kelly Myers; was freshened up following a solid three start campaign, which saw her record a third and two fourths up to a mile, and she contests the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres off 71-days from barrier five. Trainer Jason Bridgman had her scheduled to trial a week ago before rain forced the abandonment of the trials at Cambridge, so improvement is expected with the run and worsening conditions could see her reserved. But, she is a promising type of filly and indicated with a stylish effort on debut that she can act fresh.
