Te Akau Taranaki Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has five horses racing on Thursday 13 April at New Plymouth.

DUE TO IMPENDING WEATHER CONDITIONS - TRACK CONDITIONS AND CONCERNS WITH GETTING OUR HORSES HOME SAFELY - THE TEAM HAS BEEN SCRATCHED

As on Wednesday 12 April the conditions were: overcast and Slow7, rail true. 25mls rain forecast Wednesday, 25mls forecast race day.

1.07 p.m. R2 7 Amperage (4 g Zabeel - Miss Zapper) - Aaron Kuru; drops in class after tackling a competitive Saturday assignment on March 25 at Tauranga, to contest the $10,000 Rating 65 High-weight 2000 metres. The question, with rain engulfing the country, relates to handling the likelihood of a heavy track.

2.17 p.m. R4 9 Embellish (2 c Savabeel - Bling) - Opie Bosson; missed racing when rain caused the abandonment on 29 March at Matamata, and makes his debut from barrier one $10,000 Maiden 2 & 3YO 1100 metres. His two trials, with Bosson aboard, registered a third and first respectively, most recently when cruising home off the front to beat stakes placed stable-mate Summer Monsoon (Stratum) on 21 March at Matamata. A brother to Group One winner Diademe, whom Bosson had a terrific association, he may prefer better footing but looks to have the class.

2.17 p.m. R4 10 Poppin' Bubbles (2 f Rock ‘N' Pop - Princess Caga) - Alysha Collett; makes her debut from barrier two in the $10,000 Maiden 2 & 3YO 1100 metres. Her two trials, with Bosson aboard, registered a fourth and first respectively, most recently when slipping clear around the home turn and showing a good action in what was a smart win on 21 March at Matamata. She is a lovely example of a juvenile filly by this sire, who won the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) for the Te Akau Rock ‘N' Pop Syndicate, and has a good deal of precocity.

2.52 p.m. R5 12 Lucy Wyldstyle (3 f Savabeel - Legs) - Opie Bosson; trialled recently at Matamata, when sharing a competitive pace she kept up a resolute gallop in tight quarters for a close fifth, and following a race day start here in December she resumes off 133 days in the Maiden 1200 metres. Shaping as a filly to improve over more distance, she is a grand-daughter of New Zealand Oaks winner Legs (Gr. 1, 2400m) who in turn is the dam of Te Akau trained gallopers Wolfwhistle (O'Reilly) and Scrutinize (Savabeel).

3.23 p.m. R6 5 Grazia (4 m Savabeel - Trocair) - Opie Bosson; was unsuited to leading a slowly run tactical affair of only four horses in the Rating 75 2100 metres on 22 March at Pukekohe, after chasing down the pacemaker for a comfortable win in the $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 2100m on 1 March at Te Rapa, where she also collected an $11,500 bonus. Her two wins have been recorded on good footing, so the conditions will prove a factor in the $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 75 1800 metres.
