Te Akau Taranaki Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the ten-race programme on Saturday September 27 at New Plymouth.

As on Friday September 26 the conditions were: cloudy and Slow7, rail out 2 metres.

2.30 p.m. R5 16 Rapid Gain (5 g Flying Spur Occasional Gain) - Mick Dee (a1); was unable to improve his position from well back in the field when resuming on Sept. 6 in the Rating 75 1340 metres on Dead6 at Wanganui. Having recorded two of his three wins over this trip, stepping to 1400 metres second up appears ideal and much will depend on receiving a decent trip from barrier nine.

3.42 p.m. R7 14 Smashing (2 f Pins - Ruud Van Slaats) - Mick Dee (a1); last contested the Wakefield Challenge Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) in January at Trentham, and following two trials she resumes in the Rating 65 1200 metres. On debut at her previous start, she had won the Maiden 2YO 1000 metres here when impressive after leading throughout. Her recent work has been good and allowed some respite in or near the lead she looks a top chance in this field.
