Te Akau Taranaki Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Thursday 5 December at New Plymouth.

Weather: showery, track: Soft6, rail: out 5.5 metres from 1200m – 400m, remainder out 3.5 metres. 4mls rain forecast Thursday.

1:37 p.m. R2 5 Paper Moon (2 f Savabeel – Kansas) – Michael McNab; she was in close quarters after trailing to finish fourth in a trial on 26 November at Taupo, and debuts in the $18,500 Maiden 2YO 1100 metres. A trial winner among three outings, she is bred on the highly successful Savabeel/O’Reilly cross, and is presented with the opportunity to commence her career with a confident showing. 

2:12 p.m. R3 5 Brazen Affair (3 f Brazen Beau – Southern Romance) – Michael McNab; she made a lot of ground near the rail for fifth when trialling on 29 October at Waipa, and resumed with a solid second on Heavy10 going in the 3YO 1000 metres on 10 November at Tauherenikau. She has been very good through trials' stage, will likely appreciate the improved footing she strikes, and rates a top four chance if she can get the rub of the green from her wide alley (12). Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00. 

3:57 p.m. R6 13 By Her Rules (3 f Kermadec – Empress Cixi) – Lily Sutherland (a1); she found the line for fifth in the Maiden 3YO 1150 metres on 12 November at Te Aroha, and contests the $18,500 Maiden 1400 metres. Gaining experience, she appears capable of further improvement but is another needing things to go the right way from her barrier, in this case the outside draw (14). Fixed odds: $7.00 & $2.35.

4:37 p.m. R7 2 Zantabulous (5 m Almanzor – Zantelagh) – Michael McNab; she was not far away after racing handily in the Rating 75 1600 metres at Te Rapa, having finished strongly for fourth when resuming in the Rating 75 1400 metres on 26 October at Ellerslie. The winner of three races to 1600 metres, she is a genuine performer, and looks a top three chance from barrier four. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.45.
