Te Akau Tauherenikau Thursday Preview
10 Oct 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has three horses racing on Wednesday 10 October at Tauherenikau.
Weather: fine, track: Slow7, rail: true. No rain forecast.
1.32 p.m. R3 1 Pokuru’s Gift (4 g Rock ‘n’ Pop – Pokuru Boxer) – Rosie Myers; spelled in February following a fifth and second, respectively, and fought out a close finish when second at the trials on 23 September at Cambridge. Resuming in the $10,000 Maiden 1000 metres, he has gate speed but requires luck from barrier 10.
2.07 p.m. R4 9 Vino Bella (3 f Burgundy – Pinstinct) – Rosie Myers; sustained a strong finish for second when trialling on 27 August at Te Teko, and resumes in the $10,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Pearl Series Maiden 1000 metres (eligible $11,500 bonus). An improving filly, strengthened after two thirds from four starts as a two-year-old, she finished fourth here on debut and appears set to race well from barrier three.
2.42 p.m. R5 3 Excitonic (3 g Savabeel – Bint Piavonic) – Rosie Myers; did everything right before being denied room in the straight on debut in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres on 20 September at Taupo, won by stable-mate Rhapsody in Blue (Medaglia d’Oro), and contests the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. He appears ideally placed to rate a top three chance.
