Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has ten horses racing on Wednesday 9 October at Taupo.

Weather: overcast, track: Dead4, rail: true. No rain forecast.

1.04 p.m. R1 4 Faltonius (4 g High Chaparral - Faltonia) - Troy Harris; debuts in the $10,000 Maiden Colts, Geldings and Entire's 1300 metres. A good quality individual, with the potential to race over more distance, he brings good trial form and look for him to be finishing strongly from off the pace.

1.04 p.m. R1 8 Ronaldo's Dream (3 g Darci Brahma - Sweet Dreams Baby) - Opie Bosson; worked home for fifth on debut at Matamata, before finishing strongly for fourth in a good form race on 14 September in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres at Ruakaka. Ideally drawn (2) in the $10,000 Maiden Colts, Geldings and Entire's 1300 metres, he rates a top three chance.

1.39 p.m. R2 17 Laureate  (3 c Snitzel - Floria) - Opie Bosson; debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1300 metres. A beautifully bred colt that has been patiently handled through the trials' stage, he receives a good opportunity to race well fresh-up from barrier four.

2.49 p.m. R4 1 Hierarchy (4 g Burgundy - Silvara) - Opie Bosson; was not far away in fourth after working three wide near the pace here on debut in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 20 September, and contests the corresponding event. From a good draw (4), he rates an each way chance.

2.49 p.m. R4 6 Kylie Bax (4 m Pentire - Platinum Blond) - Danielle Johnson; spelled following a second and third, respectively, in her first campaign and never out of second gear when closing in for second at the trials on 23 September at Cambridge. Resuming in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, she too rates an each way chance.

3.29 p.m. R5 2 Top Brass  (4 g Epaulette - Highlight) - Opie Bosson; provided trainer Jamie Richards with his fourth winner at the meeting here on 20 September, with a determined effort in the Maiden 1100 metres. Up in grade and distance in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres, luck from a wide barrier (10) could rate him a top three chance again.

3.29 p.m. R5 12 Lilikoi (3 f Charm Spirit - Barbadine) - Danielle Johnson; delivered on her promise with a smart fresh-up win here on 20 September in the Maiden 1200 metres, and steps up in the Rating 65 1200 metres. The manner of her victory suggests she can utilize barrier four and prove competitive again.

4.04 p.m. R6 6 Burgundy Rose  (3 f Burgundy - Paraiba) - Chelsea Burdan; was claimed near home by Top Brass (above) as the stable-mates fought out the finish here on 20 September in the Maiden 1100 metres. With two seconds to her name and weight relief to 52.5kgs, she rates a top three chance from barrier three in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres.

4.04 p.m. R6 10 Double Expresso (3 f Shamexpress - Double Parked) - Donavan Mansour; debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres after quickening home for third when trialling on 23 September at Cambridge. His dam, Double Parked (Thorn Park), impressed winning here over 1200 metres, and she is suitably drawn (4) to race well first-up.

5.14 p.m. R8 12 Zareeba  (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Surooh) - Opie Bosson; was solid enough on debut here in the Maiden 1300 metres on 21 August, before working home in the Maiden 1400 metres on 18 September at Matamata. She looks capable of finishing closer when stepping up in distance for the $10,000 Maiden 1800 metres.
