Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Wednesday 14 February at Taupo.

5:01 p.m. R5 11 The Sky Above (3 f American Pharoah – Blue Blue Sky) – Opie Bosson; she jostled for position, settling fifth on the outer nearing the 600m, improved topping the rise at the 400m and ran home strongly to win a trial here on 23 January. Debuting in the $25,000 Maiden 1200 metres, she's a half-sister to former stable-mate, impressive debut stakes' winning two-year-old Bright Blue Sky (Fastnet Rock). Any emulation of her trial performance would see a bold first up performance, and while she will require luck from her wide draw (14), she has the right man in the saddle to navigate that. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.70.

5:34 p.m. R6 4 Spellcraft (4 g Savabeel – Bewitching) – Opie Bosson; he ran the fastest last 600m (34.8) from a long way back in the Rating 60 2100 metres on 21 January at Pukekohe, and contests the $25,000 Rating 60 2000 metres. Narrowly beaten in the Rating 60 1600 metres on 22 December at Matamata, and without all favours in the Rating 60 1950 metres on 28 December at Rotorua, he is capable but is another who has copped a difficult gate (12). Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.30.
