Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Wednesday 19 August at Taupo.

Weather: fine, track: Dead5, rail: out 2.5 metres between 800m - 600m, remainder true. 4mls rain forecast midday - 6 p.m. Wednesday.

11.44 a.m. R1 11 Sizzler (4 m Sizzling - O'Raghailligh) - Sam Weatherley; eased late when blocked for room here a week ago in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres and contests the corresponding event. She has form in stronger fields and rates a top three chance with luck from a wide draw (14).

11.44 a.m. R1 12 Vincere (4 m Pins - Lasting Luck) - Danielle Johnson; has looked good at the trials, with a win and third, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. Her dam won five times to 1200 metres in Australia, and she appears capable of a bold first-up effort with luck from barrier 13.

12.49 p.m. R3 5 Shezathinka  (5 m So You Think - Headsup) - Danielle Johnson; won last start by five lengths in the Rating 72 2200 metres on 18 March at Rotorua, finished strongly for second when trialling on 6 August at Rotorua, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 104 1300 metres. Third when resuming here over 1300 metres last August, and placed in both course attempts, she is stakes placed and capable of a bold showing.

12.49 p.m. R3 7 Summer Monsoon  (6 g Stratum - Princess Narine) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); won two of three starts while campaigning last season in the South Island, closed the margin appreciably when trialling on 6 August at Rotorua, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 104 1300 metres. Ideally drawn (4), he is aided by weight relief to 52kgs.

4.52 p.m. R10 4 Remington (6 g Darci Brahma - Kudamm) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); kept up a strong gallop for second when trialling on 28 July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 93 1100 metres. Suited to further, the winner of four, with four seconds, from 14 starts, could produce an encouraging first-up run with weight relief to 53.5kgs.

4.52 p.m. R10 7 Lilikoi (4 m Charm Spirit - Barbadine) - Danielle Johnson; won the Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) in December at Awapuni, and finished third in the Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) on 1 January at Ellerslie. Working home strongly in tight-quarters when trialling on 28 July at Te Rapa, and a fresh-up winner here last spring, she resumes in the $25,000 Rating 93 1100 metres.

4.52 p.m. R10 8 Aotea Lad (4 g Savabeel - Corsage) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); fought hard for a close fourth when trialling on 28 July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $25,000 Rating 93 1100 metres. Claiming to 52kgs, a former nominee for Champion Two-Year-Old, he is looking to recapture form.
