Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on 30 December at Taupo.

1.37 p.m. R2 2 The Panther (3 g Iffraaj - Le Panthere) - Kozzi Asano (a1); galloped out strongly, on terms with the leader, finishing second at the trials on 14 December at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. Destined to go further, but has speed to position handily and shapes to race well first-up. 

2.12 p.m. R3 7 Under Her Spell (3 f Not A Single Doubt - Bewitching) - Craig Grylls; was unsuited on slow ground when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1100 metres on 3 December at New Plymouth. She quickened when trialling here prior and better can be expected from barrier four in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres.

3.22 p.m. R5 8 Spirit of Gold (4 m Medaglia d'Oro - Full of Spirit) - Samantha Collett; found the line over 1400 metres on debut and finished solidly for third in the Maiden 1600 metres on 9 December at Hastings. She rates a top three chance in the $10,000 Maiden 1800 metres.

3.57 p.m. R6 6 Vino Bella (4 m Burgundy - Pinstinct) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); worked hard to lead and collared on slow ground in the Rating 74 1200 metres on 3 December at New Plymouth. Her prior efforts for first and third, respectively, were good. With weight relief to 50.5kg, she receives a chance to bounce back in the$11,000 Rating 74 1100 metres.

4.38 p.m. R7 6 Mongolianconqueror (6 g Ocean Park - Queen Rania) - Danielle Johnson; fought solidly in midfield against a strong field in the Open 1600 metres on 19 December at Te Rapa, and steps up in the $50,000 Taupo Cup (Open, 2000m). A good field to face the starter and barrier one aids his prospects. Fixed odds: $31.00 & $6.00.

5.12 p.m. R8 5 Zouluminous (4 m Zoustar - Luminous Harmony) - Danielle Johnson; took good form to the Rating 65 1600 metres on 3 December at New Plymouth, where slow footing quelled her quickening but she still fought well for fourth. She finished third at the corresponding meet last year and rates a top three chance, from barrier five, in the $10,000 Rating 65 1800 metres.
