Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has 9 horses entered on Wednesday 6 October at Taupo.

Weather: fine, track: Slow7, rail: true. 6mls rain forecast Tuesday, showers Wednesday.

1.05 p.m. R2 11 Belle En Rouge (3 f Burgundy - Cavendish Belle) - Danielle Johnson; was very good finishing second on debut in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 3 September at Hawera, and again when fourth in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 22 September at Cambridge (poly-track). In the $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1300 metres (eligible $11,500 bonus), she rates a top three chance with luck from an awkward draw (9). Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.50.

1.42 p.m. R3 4 Zeitaku (3 c Savabeel - Miss Opulence) - Danielle Johnson; ran fastest last 600m (32.1) on day when coming from last to finish third on debut in the Maiden 970 metres on 22 September at Cambridge (poly-track). Stepping up in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1300 metres, he rates a top three chance with luck from a tricky draw (8). Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.60.

2.17 p.m. R4 10 Arceus (3 g Per Incanto - Centree) - Sam Weatherley; tired after working on pace when debuting in the Maiden 3YO 1100 metres here on 8 September, following  a trial win prior on heavy ground at Te Rapa. With the addition of blinkers, he receives a chance to improve in the $12,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.00.

2.17 p.m. R4 11 Amalfi Prince (3 g Sebring - Campania) - Joe Kamaruddin (a2); finished strongly for close second when trialling on 21 September at Cambridge (poly-track), and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 1300 metres. From a mare that won six races (1100m - 1900m) in Australia, he receives weight relief to 54kg and appears capable of bold first-up performance. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.50.

2.17 p.m. R4 16 Image of You (4 m Pins - Exactly Like You) - Michael McNab; made ground solidly into midfield when trialling on 21 September at Cambridge (poly-track), and resumes in the $12,000 Maiden 1300 metres. She ended her previous campaign finishing second over 1400 metres and is ideally drawn (5) to race well.

2.17 p.m. R4 19 Savasilk (3 f Savabeel - Silk Pins) - Danielle Johnson; resumed with a good effort for third in the Maiden Fillies & Mares 970 metres on 15 September at Cambridge (poly-track), and steps up in the $12,000 Maiden 1300 metres. From a Pins (Snippets) mare that finished second in the Karaka Million 2YO, Group 1 placed, and Second Top Filly in the NZ 2YO Free Handicaps, she has top three claims with the right trip from barrier eight. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.90.

2.52 p.m. R5 7 Sophisticardo (3 g Burgundy - Glamorous Girl) - Danielle Johnson; finished fifth second-up in the El Roca - Sir Colin Meads Trophy (Listed, 1200m) on 18 September at Hastings, and drops in class for the $12,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Notable finishing fourth to stable-mate On the Bubbles (Brazen Beau) in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) last season, he has drawn widest (10) but is capable of racing well if appreciative of conditions. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.80.

4.39 p.m. R8 2 Burgundy Rose (5 m Burgundy - Paraiba) - Niranjan Parmar (a4); won a trial on 14 September at Cambridge (poly-track), and resumes in the $20,000 Rating 74 1000 metres. She has a good record of five wins and four seconds from 16 starts, including a six-length Maiden victory here over 1100 metres, has weight relief to 57kg and rates a top three propsect. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.

5.49 p.m. R10 6 Polaris (3 g Deep Field - Miss Fi) - Sam Weatherley; worked home strongly near the rail to grab third when trialling on 14 September at Cambridge (poly-track), and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres. He is drawn advantageously (1) to receive an economical trip. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.30.
