Te Akau Taupo Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Wednesday 8 March at Taupo.

Weather: fine, track: Soft5, rail: out 2 metres. No rain forecast.

2:45 p.m. R2 6 Treaty of Paris (3 g Tavistock - Echezeaux) - Warren Kennedy; he took over turning in and was only claimed late when finishing fourth in the Maiden 1600 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth. He requires luck from a wide draw (12) in the $14,000 Maiden 2000 metres.

3:20 p.m. R3 8 Trieste (4 m Tivaci - Domani Oro) - Hakim Kamaruddin (a1); she ran the fastest last 600m (35.8) for second when resuming in the Maiden 1300 metres on 3 February at Te Rapa, but seemed without the same zest in the Maiden 1400 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth. She did run home well at her only course attempt and has opportunity to improve in the $14,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

3:20 p.m. R3 13 Firriato (3 f Almanzor - Deliciano) - Opie Bosson; she produced a good effort out of midfield for third in the $14,000 Maiden 1400 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth, and contests the corresponding event. Her previous two runs were good, both at Taupo, and she rates a top three chance from barrier two.

3:20 p.m. R3 14 Star In The Sky (3 f Savabeel - Pikari Star) - Warren Kennedy; she finished solidly off a wide trip also in the $14,000 Maiden 1400 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth, and she too contests the corresponding event. She is gaining more experience and should race well again.

3:55 p.m. R4 2 Tavernia (3 f Mongolian Khan - Chaparella) - Opie Bosson; she closed strongly for third in the Rating 65 1400 metres here on 7 February, and contests the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 Fillies & Mares 1400 metres. Not far away in the Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m), and Wellington Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m) prior, she looks a top three prospect jumping from barrier one.

4:27 p.m. R5 6 Believe It Or Not (3 g Star Witness - Believe You Me) - Opie Bosson; she produced a big effort for fifth after being slowest away when resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 22 February at Pukekohe, and contests the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres. There has been merit in each of his races and he rates a top three chance from the handy barrier one.

4:59 p.m. R6 7 Iff I Get Paaid (3 f Iffraaj - Vernal) - Hakim Kamaruddin (a1); she resumed in the Maiden 1200 metres here on 7 February, won by stable-mate Insatiable (All Too Hard), and since drew away for nice win in a trial on 21 February at Avondale. Contesting the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1100 metres (eligible $13,000 bonus), she has blinkers on and is presented with the ideal opportunity to improve from barrier three.

4:59 p.m. R6 13 Rightly So (3 f El Roca - So It Begins) - Opie Bosson; she chased the leader throughout when finishing second in the Maiden 1000 metres on 6 February at Tauherenikau, and likewise contests the $14,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1100 metres. She has twice finished second from three starts, including here on debut to subsequent winning stable-mate Puketiro (Savabeel), and she has first three claims from barrier four.

5:34 p.m. R7 2 Tenebrosi (3 g Caravaggio - Dark and Stormy) - Opie Bosson; he delivered a good third on debut to subsequent winner Bellucci (Per Incanto) in the Maiden 1200 metres on 26 January at Hastings, and was a notable fourth in the Maiden 1200 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth. Drawn barrier two in the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres, the blinkers are on, and he ia another capable of a podium finish.

5:34 p.m. R7 6 Sorcha (3 f Burgundy - Niamh Elizabeth) - Hakim Kamaruddin (a1); she fought well for second in the Maiden 1200 metres on 17 February at New Plymouth, and contests the $14,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. The full sister to Saturday's runaway debut 2YO winner Cu Chulainn, she is racing well, and looks up to being right in the finish from barrier three.

6:04 p.m. R8 2 Invincibeel (4 m Savabeel - Matakana) - Opie Bosson; she did well for fourth in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 25 February at Matamata, and contests the $14,000 Rating 65 1800 metres. A good quality mare, she is another who can be right in the thick of things at the business end if she secures a decent trip from barrier nine.
