Te Akau Taupo Trials' Report










Te Akau trialled horses at Taupo -  Thursday 7 November -





Weather: overcast, track: Good3, rail: out 4.5 metres





Due to hardware being repaired there was no same day videos posted on NZTR, but expected to be available in the next couple of days.









Heat 4 Maiden 875 metres (2 ¾ lengths,
2 lengths 50.0)





3 f Ocean Park - Lost in Dubai - Anna Jones; travelled nicely three
back on the outer and ran home well for fourth after being a little green
around the home turn.





Bred and owned by Monovale Farm, having her first trial, she is a half-sister to stable-mate Pinultimate (Pins), a winner of three from five. The family of 2016 Karaka Million winner Xiong Feng (Iffraaj) and triple Group One winner of the Cox Plate, Orr Stakes, and Yalumba Stakes, Maldivian (Zabeel). 






Heat 9 Open 1025 metres (1 ¾ lengths, head 1:00.2)





Witchery (5 m Savabeel - Now the World) - Anna Jones; got back in
running to tail the field but finished off strongly on the outside, running
through the line well.





In training for Gerry Harvey (Westbury Stud), she was smart Maiden winner that was unlucky not to score again during her last campaign. By five-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), her dam, Now the World (Flying Spur), has left five individual winners of 15 races and second dam Light up The World (Rory's Jester) was a multiple group winner in Australia.






Heat 10 Maiden 1025 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 1:00.4)





Shezawinkle (3 f Rip Van Winkle - Sheza Gem) - Opie Bosson; sat
outside the leader and although looking for further she stayed on well for
third.





Bred in partnership by Oliver Saxton (Waihi Livestock) and owned with David and Matt Peacocke (Weston Lea Bloodstock), her dam, Sheza Gem (Danehill) has left four individual winners of nine races.






Heat 14 Maiden 1025 metres (short neck, head 1:01.8)





Confectionery (3 f Per Incanto - Not A Jaffa) - Opie Bosson; got back off an outside gate and ran home nicely for fourth (main picture & below).





Owned by the Te Akau Jaffalicious Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), her dam is a half-sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther (Tavistock), both being out of Bagalollies (Zabeel).



























Heat 15 Maiden 1025 metres (¾ lengths, ½ a length 1:00.4)





Darci's Rose (3 f Darci Brahma - Sovereign Rose) - Opie Bosson; got
back in running and lay in when making her run in the straight, but balanced up
to win well.





Bred and owned by Dave & Nicky Hurst, loyal supporters of Te Akau, her dam, Sovereign Rose (Pins), was trained to win four races and they also shared in the ownership of stable-mate Costa Viva (Encosta De Lago), winner of the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year.






Heat 17 Maiden 1025 metres (5 lengths, ¾ lengths 58.9)





Radegast (3 g Savabeel - Marveen) - Anna Jones; stepped a little
slowly, but snuck up the fence and finished off strongly for second in a quickly
run heat.





Owned by the Te Akau Radegast Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), he was purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis for $175,000 at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, from the draft of Kilgravin Lodge (below).
