Te Akau Taupo Wednesday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has ten horses racing on Wednesday 21 August at Taupo.

Weather: showery, track: Slow7, rail: true. 17mls rain forecast Wednesday.

12.32 p.m. R1 6 Luminous (4 m Reliable Man - Keenly) - Michael McNab; was good through the line for fifth and third, respectively, when trialling up to 1100 metres in July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Bred to stay, she displayed terrific potential through her first campaign with two seconds, and a third in the Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m), from three starts. Likely to get back from a wide draw (12) and look to finish strongly before stepping up in distance. Fixed odds: $3.40 & $1.60.

12.32 p.m. R1 16 O'Pristine  (4 m O'Reilly - So Pristine) - Craig Grylls; debuts from barrier two in the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres, after rounding off strongly for fourth in two trials over 900 metres in July at Te Rapa. Out of a Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare that won seven times to 2200 metres, including a Group Two 1600 metres in Australia, she seems capable of a bold first-up effort. Fixed odds: $13.00 & $3.80.

1.07 p.m. R2 6 Shezathinka (4 m So You Think - Headsup) - Michael McNab; trialled very well for a second and first, respectively, when trialling over 900 metres in July at Te Rapa. She produced a terrific performance for second in the Lowland Stakes (Gr. 2, 2100m) before contesting the NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) in March, and ideally drawn (3) to threaten in the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Fixed odds: $2.40 & $1.35.

1.07 p.m. R2 17 Zareeba  (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Surooh) - Craig Grylls; kept up a strong gallop for second when trialling over 1100 metres on 29 July at Te Rapa, having trialled a fortnight earlier on the same course, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Destined to get over more ground, but capable of a bold first-up performance. Fixed odds: $15.00 & $3.90.

1.42 p.m. R3 1 Summer Monsoon  (5 g Stratum - Princess Narine) - Michael McNab; was freshened following two starts in June, getting into his work for fourth when trialling over 840 metres on 6 August at Te Teko, and contests the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres. A capable type at best, he can bounce back with an improved run from barrier four. Fixed odds: $26.00 & $5.50.

1.42 p.m. R3 3 You're Welcome  (4 g Camelot - Chorus of Angels) - Opie Bosson; won on debut over 1200 metres in December at Matamata, with Bosson aboard, and trialled well for fourth and third, respectively, in July at Te Rapa. Although bred to get over ground, he looks a strong chance from barrier three in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.65.

2.52 p.m. R5 5 Savy Yong Blonk (4 m Savabeel - Ampin) - Troy Harris; followed consecutive wins with a notable efforts in the Desert Gold Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) and Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m), before a third Sunline Vase (Gr. 3, 2100m), and spelled after a good fifth in the NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m). With two trials under her belt in July at Te Rapa, she has the class to sprint well fresh from barrier two in the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $16.00 & $4.00.

2.52 p.m. R5 8 Burgundy Belle  (4 m Burgundy - Spin ‘N Grin) - Opie Bosson; freshened following a third in the 3YO 1300 metres in June at Tauranga, and held together for fourth when trialling over 900 metres on 29 July at Te Rapa. Impressive winning three from seven, and three thirds, she warrants plenty of respect from barrier one in the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $2.90 & $1.40.

3.29 p.m. R6 10 Rhapsody in Blue  (3 f Medaglia d'Oro - Kablues) - Michael McNab; ran a courageous second when debuting on Heavy11 in June at Trentham, and came from off the pace to stylishly win a trial over 840 metres on 6 August at Te Teko. From a terrific family, including Champion 3YO Filly in Australia Shamrocker (O'Reilly), winner of the Australian Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) and VRC Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), she rates an each way from barrier two in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. Fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.15.

3.29 p.m. R6 15 Ronaldo's Dream (3 g Darci Brahma - Sweet Dreams Baby) - Sam Weatherley; produced two strong trial efforts for fourth and second, respectively, in July at Te Rapa, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. From a Van Nistelrooy mare that has left five individual winners of 10 races, including dual stakes winning filly Windborne (Darci Brahma) and Group One placed stakes winning filly Darci's Dream (Darci Brahma), both also owned by Fortuna and trained by Te Akau, following in their footsteps could see a bold first-up performance. Fixed odds: $18.00 & $4.00.
