Te Akau Taupo Wednesday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has thirteen horses racing on Wednesday 12 August at Taupo.

Weather: overcast, track: Dead5, rail: true. 11mls rain forecast Tuesday and no rain Wednesday.

11.25 a.m. R1 3 Baby Shark (4 g Rip Van Winkle - Bak Da Chief) - Sam Weatherley; trialled well for second in July at Te Aroha, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres. A brother to dual Group 1 winning stable-mate Te Akau Shark (Rip Van Winkle), he is bred to go further but is ideally drawn (1) to show improvement with the addition of side winkers.

11.57 a.m. R2 2 Markus Aurelius (4 g Ghibellines - Evancho) - Danielle Johnson; followed two strong performances with a super gallop to win over 1400 metres in March at Matamata. He picked up nicely when trialling on 28 July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres. Although bred to go further, he rates a top three chance.

12.32 p.m. R3 3 Lethal (4 g Savabeel - Katie Lee) - Jonathan Riddell; produced a notable effort for third over 1200 metres on 20 March at Avondale, with two good seconds at trials since. With the right trip from off the pace, he rates an each way chance in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres.

12.32 p.m. R3 6 Sizzler (4 m Sizzling - O'Raghailligh) - Sam Weatherley;
found Heavy10 too testing when resuming over 1100 metres on 22 July at
Ellerslie, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. Capable of racing handily from barrier
four, she had good form on better footing in strong two-year-old fields and has
the addition of visor blinkers.

12.32 p.m. R3 7 Duby (4 m Ocean Park - Lost in Dubai) -
Craig Grylls; was never off the bridle finishing a close second at the trials
on 28 July at Te Rapa, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. Having trialled well here for
fourth, she then won a trial and should produce a bold showing. She is a
half-sister to stable-mate Pinultimate (Pins), a winner of three from five over
1200 metres.

12.32 p.m. R3 15 Fashion Shoot (3 f Savabeel - High
Fashion) - Danielle Johnson; followed a trials second and third, respectively,
winning well on 28 July at Te Rapa, and debuts from barrier one in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. By
five-time Champion Sire, her dam, High Fashion (O'Reilly), was an
immensely talented race mare with a terrific turn of foot, winning four races
including the Desert Gold Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m) and Lowland Stakes (Gr. 3,
2100m) as a three-year-old.

1.07 p.m. R4 5 No Limits (3 c Savabeel - Make A Wish) - Danielle Johnson; has two wins, second and third, from four trials and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. Beautifully bred and a tremendously athletic type, he is destined to appreciate more distance but is classy - look for him getting home from off the pace.

1.42 p.m. R5 11 Greedy (4 m Savabeel - Indulge) -
Danielle Johnson; debuted behind winning stable-mate Get Hitched (Lonhro) on 11
March at Matamata, got home strongly when trialling on 14 July at Ellerslie,
and contests the $10,000
Maiden 1300 metres. A three-quarter sister to Te Akau trained Group 2
& 3 winner Splurge (Savabeel), she could resume with a bold showing.

2.17 p.m. R6 2 Khafeef (5 g Champs Elysees - Tawaareekh) - Leith Innes; was a winner over 2100 metres in France, from four starts to 2400m, and kicking off in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres.

2.52 p.m. R7 8 Miss Aotearoa (3 f Per Incanto - Danex) - Danielle Johnson; kept up
a strong gallop to win at the trials on 28 July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the
$25,000 3YO 1100 metres. She has won all four trials, finished fifth on debut
to stable-mate and subsequent Waikato Slipper (Gr. 3, 1200m) winner Need I Say
More (No Nay Never) in February at Matamata, and should race well.

3.29 p.m. R8 4 Super Sid (4 g Rip Van Winkle - Half Bak) - Jonathan Riddell; trialled well before a notable fifth in March at Matamata. He had a soft trial fourth on 28 July at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. A three-quarter brother to dual Group 1 winning stable-mate Te Akau Shark (Rip Van Winkle), winner of seven from 14 and $1.5m, he is destined to go further and look for him finding the line.

3.29 p.m. R8 8 Vamos Bebe (4 m I Am Invincible -
Hurtle Myrtle) - Danielle Johnson; spelled after finishing second on debut in
September at Te Rapa, she produced a smart win at the trials on 14 July at
Ellerslie. Resuming from barrier two in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres, her
dam, Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow), won the Myer Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m), Dane
Ripper Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) and Sapphire Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), and she has
the quality to race well.

3.29 p.m. R8 9 Ocean Belle (4 m Ocean Park - Xanadu) -
Sam Weatherley; made good ground for fourth when trialling on 14 July at
Ellerslie, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. From terrific dual
Group 1 winning mare Xanadu (Elusive City), winner of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders'
Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) and Windsor Park Plate (Gr. 1, 1600m), she is ideally
drawn (3) to make an impact.
