Te Akau Tauranga Easter Monday Preview

Te Akau Racing has eight horses entered on Easter Monday (5 April) at Tauranga.

Weather: fine, track: Slow8, rail: out 2.5 metres. No rain forecast.

12.30 p.m. R1 4 Te Akau Ben  (3 g Tavistock - Danalaga) - Opie Bosson; won well at the trials on 16 March at Cambridge, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. From a stakes performed mare that has left four winners of 17 races, including New Zealand Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner More Than Sacred (More Than Ready). He seems destined for more distance, but ideally drawn in barrier three to race well.

1.05 p.m. R2 9 Charmaine's Dream  (3 f Charm Spirit - Scatter Cat) - Samantha Collett; held her spot off a wide run for third when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1050 metres on 17 March at Matamata. She has the form and credentials to rate a top three chance in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres.

1.40 p.m. R3 2 Lightning Field  (4 g Deep Field - Claudine) - Opie Bosson; has been given time (26 days) since a notable effort for fourth in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 10 March at Otaki, and contests the corresponding event. Deserved of a win, he rates a top three chance despite drawing wide (12).

4.00 p.m. R7 4 Ginger Too (4 g Iffraaj - La Chiflota) - Opie Bosson; kept up a strong gallop for third in a tight finish when trialling on 16 March at Cambridge, and resumes in the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. Placed in two of three course attempts, he is capable of a bold first-up effort from barrier two.

4.00 p.m. R7 12 Awareness (4 m Redoute's Choice - Aware) - Michael McNab; won her only start as a three-year-old, but struggling to recapture the form. She seeks improvement in the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres.

4.38 p.m. R8 7 Confectionery  (4 m Per Incanto - Not A Jaffa) - Michael McNab; fought hard for close second in the Maiden 1400 metres on 25 January at Matamata, and did similar last time for fourth after racing outside the leader on Slow7 in the Maiden 1400 metres on 10 March at Otaki. She rates a top three chance in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

4.38 p.m. R8 12 When In Paris  (4 m Pierro - Bulle De Champagne) - Joe Kamaruddin (a3); finished close up fourth without coming off the bridle when trialling on 16 February at Cambridge, but unable to quicken on Slow7 footing when resuming in the Maiden 1200 metres on 10 March at Otaki. With weight relief to 53.5kg, she receives a chance to improve from barrier three in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

4.38 p.m. R8 13 It's My Party  (3 f Darci Brahma - A La Votre) - Sam Weatherley; finished fourth after racing outside the leader on debut in the Pearl Series Maiden 1200 metres on 19 February at Wanganui, and missed the start after standing in gates for a lengthy period in the Maiden 1400 metres on 10 March at Otaki. She receives a chance to improve from barrier four in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres.
