Te Akau Tauranga Friday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Friday 25 October at Tauranga.

Weather: fine, track: Slow7, rail: out 6 metres. No rain forecast.

2.12 p.m. R1 16 Man Oh Man (4 g Reliable Man - Lumir) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); resumed with a notable effort off a wide run for sixth in the Maiden 1400 metres on 25 September at Te Rapa, and steps up in the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres. Progeny by the sire are going well at present and the aid of weight relief to 55.5kgs and good draw (5) helps rate him a top five chance.

2.47 p.m. R2 2 Hierarchy (4 g Burgundy - Silvara) - Michael McNab; followed a solid debut fourth at Taupo, with third on the same course to stable-mate Kylie Bax (Pentire) in the Maiden 1200 metres on 9 October. Ideally drawn (2) in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres, he rates an each way chance.

4.00 p.m. R4 4 Ginger Too  (3 g Iffraaj - La Chiflota) - Michael McNab; has trialled well, winning twice, including most recently with a courageous effort on 23 September at Cambridge, and debuts from barrier one in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. Out of a Group One winner and Champion 2YO Filly in Chile, he has the right attributes to perform well first-up.

4.25 p.m. R5 12 Lightning Field (3 g Deep Field - Claudine) - Michael McNab; debuts from barrier three in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, following a well judged trial win on 23 September at Cambridge. He has quite a pedigree and line-bred to some terrific sires: Sir Tristram, Mr. Prospector, and Northern Dancer.

6.16 p.m. R8 9 Byzantine  (4 g Savabeel - Baradevi) - Craig Grylls; fought hard from a handy position to finish third when trialling on 15 October at Te Rapa, and drawn barrier six in the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. A stakes performed two-year-old winner that won dominantly over 1200 metres in May at Pukekohe, he can prove hard to catch but capable on his day.

6.16 p.m. R8 12 Meteoric Lass (5 m Stratum - Benatar) - Michael McNab; fought hard after leading for a close third to stable-mate Prise de Fer (Savabeel) in the Rating 72 1400 metres on 6 October at Te Teko. Twice a winner over 1200 metres, she meets a strong field in the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres but ideally drawn (1) to prove competitive.
