Te Akau Tauranga Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has twelve horses entered on Wednesday 24 November at Tauranga (twilight meeting).

Weather: overcast, track: Dead4, rail: out 10 metres. 3mls rain forecast Tuesday.

1.38 p.m. R1 1 Flat Track Bully (4 g Reliable Man - Lime Squeeze) - Michael McNab; made good ground for fifth in a Maiden 1200 metres here on 20 October, before over-racing with blinkers on in Maiden 1400 metres on 7 November at Hastings. Ideally drawn (4) in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres, he needs to settle. Fixed odds: $13.00 & $3.80. The first of four in the event for the stable.

1.38 p.m. R1 3 Malfurion (4 g Pure Champion - Katorie) - Niranjan Parmar (a4); drew out to win well when trialling on 4 November at Matamata, and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. From the family of New Zealand Cup (Gr. 3, 3200m) winner My Scotsgrey (Golan), he is ideally drawn (1), has weight relief to 54.5kg and it's a good starting point for a horse destined for further.

1.38 p.m. R1 4 Eridor (3 g Telperion - Fille de France) - Sam Weatherley; sustained top gallop to win easily when trialling on 4 November at Matamata, and debuts in $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. From first crop of beautifully bred young stallion Telperion (Street Cry), out of mare by former Champion Two-Year-Old Sire and multiple group one producer Mossman (Success Express). Emulation of his trial effort would make him competitive. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.30.

1.38 p.m. R1 12 Classico (3 f Pierro - Onetangi) - Danielle Johnson; quickened with big finish to win stylishly when trialling on 4 November at Matamata, and also debuts in $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Ideally drawn (3), with speed in her family, she shapes to race well first-up.

2.15 p.m. R2 8 Midnight Special (4 m Excelebration - Midnight Van Damme) - Michael McNab; ran very well for second on debut in a $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 29 October at Hawera, and contests a corresponding event. She appears to meet a stronger field, but should race well again with right trip from barrier eight - the first of a Te Akau trio in the race.

2.15 p.m. R2 11 Illicit Miss (3 f Hinchinbrook - Unlawful) - Sam Weatherley; slipped clear nearing home turn and charged away to win impressively when trialling on 4 November at Matamata, and debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. By Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock), half-brother to Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice), she has drawn handily at barrier four and an emulation of her trial win would make her competitive.

2.15 p.m. R2 15 Kotiro Tere (3 f Rock ‘n' Pop - Lady Masako) - Niranjan Parmar (a4); quickened strongly for third in same trial as Classico (above) on 4 November at Matamata, and she too debuts in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Ideally drawn (6), she is aided by weight relief to a featherweight 51kg.

2.52 p.m. R3 8 Highborn (4 m Savabeel - Tempo Manor) - Danielle Johnson; got back from an outside draw (11) before finishing strongly for fifth in the same 1200-metre race as Midnight Special (above) on 29 October at Hawera, and is suited stepping up in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres. She rates a top four chance with right trip from barrier eight - one of two in the race for the stable.

2.52 p.m. R3 12 Self Obsession (3 f Shocking - Mawaakib) - Michael McNab; circled wide and was very good late for third to Malfurion (above) when trialling on 4 November at Matamata, and debuts in $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres. Drawn (2) to receive an economical trip, she shapes to race well first-up.

3.25 p.m. R4 11 Invincibeel (3 f Savabeel - Matakana) - Danielle Johnson; ran on well for fourth when debuting in a Maiden 1300 metres on 3 November at Cambridge (poly-track), and steps up in the $12,000 Maiden 1400 metres. She is ideally drawn (3) to further improve.

4.03 p.m. R5 11 Trieste (3 f Tivaci - Domani Oro) - Michael McNab; ran fastest last 600m (35.8) for second in a Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 15 October at Te Aroha, and made ground from last in a corresponding event on Melbourne Cup Day (2 Nov.) at Te Rapa. She should race well again with the right trip from barrier nine in the $12,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $13.00 & $3.80.

5.49 p.m. R8 2 Devoted (4 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Niranjan Parmar (a4); galloped home solidly on inner when trialling in a strong field on 4 November at Matamata, and resumes in the $12,000 Rating 65 1300 metres. He drew out to win comfortably on debut over 1600 metres in April at Avondale, is drawn to advantage (2) and has the added bonus of weight relief to 54kg.
