28 May, 2025
Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Wednesday 28 May at Tauranga.
Tauranga:
Weather: showery, track: Heavy9, rail: true. 3mls rain forecast Wednesday.
2:29 p.m. R6 1 Colonel Warden (3 g Russian Revolution – Moralto) – Tayla Melvin (a4); he drifted to the back on the inner, was checked, and finished back on Heavy10 in the Rating 65 1215 metres on 10 May at Rotorua. He faces a drop in grade for the $17,000 Rating 60 1200 metres and enjoys weight relief to 56kg. While has drawn out wide (12) this may prove to be advantageous given the conditions, and he finds the chance to improve if he can handle the going. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.60.
3:39 p.m. R8 1 Puzzle Master (3 g Rubick – One Mansini) – Craig Grylls; he was unable to handle very testing Heavy10 footing in the Rating 65 1215 metres on 10 May at Rotorua, and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. While last start the track conditions were his undoing, this track is unlikely to be as wet but again, much depends on whether he cops the prevailing going. Fixed odds: $13.00 & $3.90.
3:39 p.m. R8 8 Akenehi (4 m Fastnet Rock – Igraine) – Michael McNab; she fought well for fourth when resuming in the Rating 65 1100 metres on 14 May at Matamata, and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. She has compiled a very good distance record including a win (Heavy8) and she has placed four times from five starts. Of note, her dam Igraine (Galileo) impressed winning on soft ground from 1400m – 2100m, including a Group 2 Counties Cup victory, her daughter has undoubted ability, and rates a top four chance. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.80.
