Te Akau Tauranga Saturday Preview
Date: 2 Jan 2021
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on 2 January at Tauranga.
Weather: fine, track: Dead6, rail: out 5 metres. 5mls rain forecast race day.
1.20 p.m. R2 1 Burgundy Rose (4 m Burgundy - Paraiba) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); resumed with consecutive wins before a close third after leading in the Rating 74 1200 metres on 12 December at Te Rapa. Ideally drawn (3) in the $11,000 Rating 74 1200 metres, with weight relief to 55.5kg, she rates a top three chance.
3.40 p.m. R6 3 Rakuten (4 g Savabeel - Millililli) - Opie Bosson; has freshened (31 days) since the Maiden 1215 metres on 2 December at Rotorua, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Required to overcome a wide draw (13), he is generally consistent and receives a chance to bounce back with luck in running.
4.15 p.m. R7 5 Romantic Lady (4 m Power - Romantic Time) - Opie Bosson; continued her genuine form with second in the Open 1200 metres on 12 December at Awapuni, and steps up in the $15,000 Open 1400 metres. Four wins, four seconds, and never further back that fifth in 11 starts suggests she will again provide ample competition.
4.50 p.m. R8 3 Maasir (3 g Proisir - Maakel) - Opie Bosson; raced well in three starts before being freshened, and held together, going well, in a line-up for the minors when trialling on 14 December at Te Aroha. He closed very well for fourth here in the Maiden 1400 metres on 14 October and appears ideally placed to rate a top three chance from barrier four in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres.
