Te Akau Racing has six horses entered on Sunday 20 March at Tauranga.
Weather: fine, track: Dead6, rail: true. 5mls rain forecast Saturday, 10mls Sunday.
1:20 p.m. R2 11 Dancing Sands (3 f Contributer - Tonic) - Masa Hashizume (a2); worked home well for third in a trial on 1 March at Avondale, and debuts in the $15,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Dam Tonic (Blues Traveller) won six times including three stakes' wins over 1600 metres and is a terrific producer with six individual winners of 27 races - one of two 'debs' in the race for the stable. Fixed odds: $31.00 & $5.50.
1:20 p.m. R2 14 Excellerina (3 f Exceed and Excel - Addie Lane) - Opie Bosson; responded well for fourth in a trial on 1 March at Avondale, and debuts in a $15,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Dam Addie Lane (Street Cry) won at 1200 metres from only five starts in Australia. Fixed odds: $16.00 & $3.80.
2:29 p.m. R4 3 Aotea Lad (5 g Savabeel - Corsage) - Masa Hashizume (a2); continued racing well with a strong finish for fourth to stable-mate Prise De Fer (Savabeel) in an Open 1500 metres on Derby Day (5 Mar.) at Ellerslie, and contests the $40,000 Open 1600 metres. Two of three wins have come at the mile, he is ideally drawn (4), has weight relief to 56kg, handles give in the ground, and rates a top three chance if appreciative of the course at his first attempt. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.50.
3:05 p.m. R5 1 Summer Monsoon (7 g Stratum - Princess Narine) - Elen Nicholas (a3); continued outstanding form to powerfully win the Stewards' Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) during Cup Week at Riccarton. Spelled after contesting the Hazlett Stakes (Listed, 1200m) on Boxing Day at Wingatui, he coasted home nicely for third in a trial on 9 March at Cambridge, and resumes in the $40,000 Open 1200 metres. With weight relief to 57kg and the ability to act fresh, he strikes a good line-up, but should race well if appreciative of this course at his first attempt. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $1.90.
3:45 p.m. R6 3 The Mighty Spar (4 g Savabeel - O'Dianne) - Opie Bosson; capped good form when letting down with undeniable finish in a Rating 65 1600 metres on 13 January at Otaki, and has been freshened since finishing sixth in a Rating 74 1600 metres on 9 February at Ruakaka. A winner on dead and slow ground, he rates a top three contender in the $30,000 Rating 74 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.90.
4:19 p.m. R7 10 A Little Bit Bossy (3 f Rock ‘n' Pop - Molly Coco) - Opie Bosson; was resilient finishing third on debut in a Maiden 1200 metres on 30 January at Ellerslie, and collected Pearl Series bonus ($11,500) winning a Maiden 3YO Fillies 1400 metres on 23 February at Pukekohe. Stepping up in grade for the $30,000 Rating 65 1400 metres, she harks from a family handling give and she rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.70.
