Te Akau Tauranga Tuesday Preview
Date: 2 Jan 2024
Te Akau Racing has six horses entered on 2 January at Tauranga.
Weather: fine, track: Heavy8, rail: out 6.5 metres. No rain forecast.
2:12 p.m. R3 7 Bella Voce (3 f Fastnet Rock – Keep On Singing) – Opie Bosson; she circled from beyond midfield in the fastest last 600m (34.5) for second on debut in the Maiden 1200 metres on 13 December at Hastings, and likewise contests the $18,500 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. She presents also as a top three chance but has drawn wide(12). Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.90.
2:47 p.m. R4 9 Inspired By Art (3 f So You Think – La Bella Delicia) – Opie Bosson; she was held up with more to offer in a trial on 22 November at Taupo, and ran the fastest last 600m (34.7) for second to subsequent winner Vera Rose (Fiorente) when debuting in the Maiden 1300 metres on 2 December at Te Rapa. From an outstanding family that has shown to handle give in ground, she should make her presence felt in the $18,500 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres, also featuring two stable starters. Fixed odds: $2.70 & $1.45.
2:47 p.m. R4 11 Never Forgotten (3 f Fastnet Rock – Memories of You) – Matt Cameron; she found the line for fifth off an economical trip in the Maiden 1200 metres here on 15 December, and contests the $18,500 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres. A filly with a classy pedigree, she is bred to keep improving over more distance, but will need a lot to go her way from the carpark gate (15). Fixed odds: $15.00 & $4.50.
4:37 p.m. R7 3 Devoted (6 g Contributer – Mapmaker) – Jess Allen (a3); he tracked through from the rear for a second-up victory in the Rating 65 1600 metres here on 15 December, with Allen aboard, and steps up in the $18,500 Rating 75 2100 metres. With weight relief to 53kg, he is a winner over 2100 metres on heavy footing, and receives the opportunity to retain his recent good flat form. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.30.
4:37 p.m. R7 5 Treaty of Paris (4 g Tavistock – Echezeaux) – Opie Bosson; he resumed with a strong finish for fifth in the Rating 75 1500 metres on 16 December at Te Rapa, and posted a solid second in the Rating 75 1600 metres on 27 December at New Plymouth. He won his Maiden over 2000 metres and, if appreciative of conditions, can feature in a dividend-paying finish. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.40.
5:12 p.m. R8 16 She Turns Heads (3 f Headwater – Convene) – Warren Kennedy; she hunted through to lead and kept giving for third in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 22 December at Matamata, won by stable-mate Certainly (Savabeel), and contests the $18,500 Maiden 1400 metres. Narrowly beaten at her only course attempt, she rates a top three chance, has drawn well (4) and has the services of Kennedy fresh from winning seven on the premier Auckland card on New Year's Day. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.
