Te Akau Te Aroha Midweek Preview
Date: 17 Feb 2021
Te Akau Racing has 11 horses entered on Wednesday 17 February at Te Aroha.
Weather: fine, track: Dead6, rail: out 3 metres.
11.53 a.m. R1 6 Confectionery (4 m Per Incanto - Not A Jaffa) - Samantha Spratt; worked off a wide gate (12) to sit outside the leader and fought hard for a close second in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres on 25 January at Matamata. With a similar effort, she rates a top three chance in the corresponding race. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.90.
11.53 a.m. R1 8 Feelin' Fancy (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Frivolous) - Danielle Johnson; made good ground late flashing into third when trialling on 12 January at Matamata, and got home in similar fashion on the same course for sixth in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres on 25 January. Drawn 10 in the corresponding event, she rates a top four chance if appreciative of conditions. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.95.
12.25 p.m. R2 11 Jahzara (3 f Power - Game Duchess) - Danielle Johnson; was denied room when finishing fourth on debut in the Pearl Series Maiden 1200 metres on 29 December at New Plymouth, and solid for fourth in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres on 28 January at Hastings. Contesting the corresponding event, there is evidence in the family of coping with slow ground. Fixed odds: $3.70 & $1.60.
3.20 p.m. R7 3 Lucky Shark (4 g Darci Brahma - Shamardal Luck) - Opie Bosson; did well after missing the start to finish fourth in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 9 January at Awapuni, won by stable-mate Vincere (Pins), and fourth again to subsequent winner Arlington Gold (Excelebration) in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 25 January at Matamata. He has shown enough to rate a top four prospect in the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $3.50 & $1.40.
3.55 p.m. R8 1 Seajetz (3 g Iffraaj - Bellazeel) - Danielle Johnson; overcame worsening track conditions to win the Maiden 1400 metres here on 3 January, and stepped up with a very good second in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres on 25 January at Matamata. In the corresponding race, drawn wide (14) on slow ground may not prove too adverse and he can feature in the first three. Fixed odds: $3.20 & $1.50.
3.55 p.m. R8 4 Super Sid (4 g Rip Van Winkle - Half Bak) - Opie Bosson; came from last with a big run for second in the Rating 65 1560 metres on 28 December at Rotorua, and circled from the rear for fifth in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 15 January at Tauranga. From a family that invariably appreciates give in the ground, slow ground may assist in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. Fixed odds: $4.80 & $1.95.
3.55 p.m. R8 5 Boutonniere (3 g Burgundy - Bouquet) - Troy Harris; co-led and fought well for fourth on downgrading Heavy10 footing in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 3 January at Te Aroha, and lifted well for third after leading in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres on 25 January at Matamata. He has the form to race well again in the corresponding event. Fixed odds: $9.50 & $3.10.
3.55 p.m. R8 7 Vicenza (4 m Sacred Falls - Tonic) - Ashvin Goindasamy (a1); did her best work through the line when resuming in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 23 December at Matamata, won by stable-mate Campionessa (Contributer), and solid finishing midfield in the same race as Seajetz and Boutonniere, above, on 25 January. There is enough in the pedigree to suggest coping with the going. Fixed odds: $41.00 & $7.75.
3.55 p.m. R8 11 Scottish Star (5 m Bullbars - Highland Lights) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); sustained a big run from last to finish sixth in the same race as Seajetz, Boutonniere, and Vicenza, above, on 25 January at Matamata. She has weight relief to 53kg and slow ground may not hinder in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.90.
5.05 p.m. R10 12 Speed of Light (3 f Proisir - Light Source) - Danielle Johnson; got back off a wide gate (11) and did well for fifth after circling widest in the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres on 25 January at Matamata. Racing solidly and rates a top three propsect if appreciative of conditions in the corresponding event. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.
5.35 p.m. R11 2 Lightning Field (4 g Deep Field - Claudine) - Opie Bosson; ran into third on 23 December in the Maiden 1400 metres and circled from third last to finish fourth in the Maiden 1200 metres on 25 January, both at Matamata. Deserved of a win, he rates a top three chance in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres despite drawing wide (10). Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.40.
