Te Akau Te Aroha Preview
22 November, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has five horses racing on Wednesday 23 November at Te Aroha.
As on Tuesday 22 November the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail true. No rain forecast.
1.28 p.m. R2 14 Kuia (3 f Guillotine - Triage) - Cameron Lammas; was doing her best work past the line when trialling here on 27 October over 1000 metres and makes her debut in the Maiden 1400 metres. There are some lovely horses in her family, while she shapes as more of a staying type, and rounding off solidly against this field would be a good start. A decision is pending, as she has also accepted to race on Thursday at Waipa.
2.38 p.m. R4 10 Abloom (3 f Darci Brahma - Corsage) - Matt Cameron; was given two ideal rides at the trials by Te Akau apprentice Jasmine Fawcett and resumes off 168 days in the Maiden 3YO 1000 metres. A wide draw makes it tricky and securing the right sort of trip will be paramount in what appears a strong field.
3.13 p.m. R5 4 Kingsman (3 c Darci Brahma - Society Lady) - Matt Cameron; is a recent addition to the stables and drawn barrier eight in the Rating 75 1000 metres. He resumed his campaign in August with a fourth to Ugo Foscolo (Zacinto) and Hall of Fame (Savabeel) over 1200 metres at Hastings, and a third in the Karaka Million (Listed, 1200m) as a two-year-old indicates his credentials to be competitive here.
3.53 p.m. R6 13 Unfazed (3 f Zabeel - Faze) - Matt Cameron; has been given time since winning a trial over 1030 metres on Slow9 in August at Te Teko, and makes her debut in the Maiden 1200 metres. Being by Zabeel (Sir Tristram) will see her over more ground in time, but there is speed on her dam side and she appears capable of a solid first up performance with luck from a wide draw.
5.42 p.m. R9 6 Rocksun (4 g Fastnet Rock - Beyond the Sunset) - Matt Cameron; had his race plans thwarted with the abandonment of racing on 11 November at Dargaville, after producing a good fresh up second in the Rating 75 1200 metres on Slow8 at Waverley, before finishing seventh in the corresponding event against a stronger field on Dead6 at Avondale. Having recorded both wins over 1400 metres, he should appreciate stepping up in distance for the Rating 75 1400 metres and has the ability to measure up in this field with luck from a wide gate.
