Te Akau Te Aroha Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the nine-race programme on Wednesday June 18 at Te Aroha.

As on Tuesday June 17 the conditions were: cloudy and Heavy11, rail out 1 metre.

11:15am R1 4 Sunset Pass (5 g Yamanin Vital - Janet's Chance) - Daniel Miller (a2.5); stayed on nicely for fourth at his first hurdle start this time in over 2500 metres on Dead5 footing at Hastings, following two runs on the flat. He steps out here in the Maiden Hurdles 3100 metres where an increase in distance is expected to aid his prospects.

12:28pm R3 6 Highly Likely (3 g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Jamie Richards; produced a good performance on debut, after meeting a check midrace, he belatedly made very good ground to finish close up in fifth on May 26 in the Maiden 3YO 1600 metres on Heavy10 footing at Hawera. He now steps up in distance to contest the Maiden 2200 metres for amateur riders, where he will be ridden by Te Akau Racing Manager Jamie Richards. Jamie has ridden three winners from only six starts in similar events and rides the Te Akau team each day in track work at Matamata.

2:47pm R7 10 Jewels Gift (3 f Stravinsky - Jesmonds Gift) - Matt Cameron; has the benefit of a recent trial to resume off 193-days in the Maiden 1200 metres. Showing to act in a fresh start when finishing second to Telepathic (Mossman) at the start of her last campaign, she will be kept wide in search of the best going, from barrier twelve, and look to sustain her run in the straight.
