Te Akau Te Aroha Trials Report
Te Akau trialled a nice "brigade" of horses at Te Aroha on Tuesday - a further report of triallists bought by David Ellis will come soon ...

Heat 1 Opn Hcp Catchweight 1200 metres (head, 1¼ lengths, 1.12.15)

Hushed - Jasmine Fawcett; sped through to land in the trial. Under minimal urgings he went head and head with the winner down the straight to be beaten on the line by a head.

Heat 2 Opn Hcp Catchweight 1000 metres (1½ lengths, head, 59.78)

Gingernuts - Matthew Cameron; was awkwardly away from the gates, but quickly mustered speed to work through to the trialling position. Angled off the leaders back turning for home, he worked to the line nicely to finish second.

Astrid - Jasmine Fawcett; began well and found a nice position in behind the speed. Kept to the inside of runners, she worked to the line nicely to finish alongside the placegetters in fourth position.

|Tatters - Opie Bosson; jumped away well and raced on the speed. Under minimal urgings, she kept up a good gallop to the line.

Heat 3 Opn Hcp Catchweight 1000 metres (length, ½ length, 59.03)

Spritz - Jasmine Fawcett; missed the kick slightly and raced at the tail of the field. She wasn't asked for a strong effort and worked to the line without being tested.

Xtravagant - Matthew Cameron; jumped away well to sit outside the leader. Took over the lead turning for home and worked away from his rivals to score impressively by a length.

Heat 4 2YO Catchweight 800 metres (1½ length, 1½ length, 46.69)

Aquilo - Michael McNab; sped through along the inside of runners to lead the trial. Turning for home, he kicked clear and won the trial in good fashion.

Heat 5 2YO Catchweight 800 metres (head, ¾ length, 47.00)

Coup Bradman - Michael McNab; got back and raced keenly throughout the early stages of the trial. On straightening, he travelled well without much racing room and finished in behind the placegetters.

Heat 6 2YO Catchweight 800 metres (½ length, neck, 47.03)

Cousteau - Michael McNab; was slow away from the barriers but mustered speed to race in behind the leaders. Unable to obtain clear racing room, he went to the line untested behind the winner.

Heat 7 2YO Catchweight 800 metres (1½ lengths, 4 lengths, 47.47)

Full Of Grace - Michael McNab; raced wide throughout the trial, hung out when rounding the corner and the effort told over the final 150 metres.

Heat 8 2YO Catchweight 800 metres (2¼ lengths, ½ length, 47.10)

Icebomb - Cameron Lammas; began well and was eased out of the early speed battle, to settle in behind the leaders. Angled out at the top of the straight she let down impressively to race away from her rival and score by two and a quarter lengths.

Heat 11 Maiden Catchweight 800 metres (2½ lengths, ¾ lengths, 47.12)

More Than Fast - Cameron Lammas; began well, though had to race three-wide handy to the speed. Under no urging, he let down nicely before his condition gave out over the final 200 metres.

Heat 13 Maiden Catchweight 800 metres (2 lengths, 1¼ lengths, 47.25)

Alrina -  Opie Bosson; flew the barriers and clearly led the trial. Railed well and ran away from her rivals to score by a length and a half untested.

Heat 14 Maiden Catchweight 1000 metres (neck, 1¼ lengths, NTA)

Abbey Kay - Cameron Lammas; began quickly from the inside barrier to lead the trial. When one came alongside her she found extra and keep going to the line to take out the trial.

 

Heat 15 Maiden Catchweight 1000 metres (¾ length, length, 59.22)

Winehouse - Michael McNab; settled in a midfield position, angled wide on straightening and soon after she was eased out of the trial.

Heat 16 Maiden Catchweight 1000 metres (neck, 1¼ lengths, 59.96)

Zavistic - Jasmine Fawcett; found a midfield position before getting caught behind one that went backwards. Once she found the centre of the track on straightening he made good ground up.

Heat 17 Maiden Catchweight 1000 metres (¾ length, ¾ length, NTA)

Gardenier - Cameron Lammas; settled in the back third of the field. Bought to the outside of runners on straightening, Cameron never asked her for an effort and she made nice ground up down the outside.

Heat 23 Maiden Catchweight 1200 metres (neck, length, 1.12.36)

Colorado Prince - Cameron Lammas; from the wide barrier, worked forward to sit outside the leader. He kept up a strong gallop to the line to finish third, only a length from the winner.
